A news article from the Texas Carrollton police & State Farm
    Most stolen “cats”
    40% Totota Tundra
    17% Toyota Tacoma
    16% Mitsubishi Outlander
    7% Sequoia
    6% Silverado
    6% Toyota Prius
    4% Chevy Express
    3% Ford Escape
    3% Honda CR-V
Criminals can make $400-$500 a piece.
Recyclers can make $1,200 or more per “Cat”.

This may provide a better idea of the popularity of stolen Catalytic Converters
I think the Tundra’s is popular due the size & maybe they have Two of them.

Better buy a “Cat” shield, it just may help . Remember most thieves just need 1-2 minutes before here are gone. A battery sawzall with sharp metal cutting blades.
A lifted truck makes it easier to crawl under a truck. Thieves also carry a hydraulic jacks.

Police mention people use Re-bars & chains weld to “cats” . The thieves just cut them off.

Just installed one on my 2017. Figured its the better alternative to dealing with a stolen cat converter .

The down side of adding shields is if the thieves cannot remove the shields? If they get upset? They have a sawzall that can do other damages under and around your vehicles.

The damages to replace a “cat” can be as hight as $3,000+ . Most are just under that. Plus most of us have a deductible on our insurance policy. Meaning we will be paying that cost too.

We had a customers tundra written off due to them cutting the fuel lines and damaging wiring.

They are in a hurry, the shields are a great way to stop them.

    I think it depends.

If the thief is trying to make money, and is walking around a target rich environment (such as a full parking lot), my bet is they’ll simply roll to the next vehicle with a less protected cat. They aren’t going to waste time and Sawzall battery (not to mention risk being caught) on vandalism. They want to gather the most cats in the least time with the least risk of being caught.

If, on the other hand, your vehicle is parked in a secluded spot where the thief has time to mess with it, then they’re going to mess with it regardless of what protection you have bolted to it.

This latter case seems more like targeted vandalism than thieving though.

Thieves who steal cars strike me as more or less “professional” thieves. By this I mean they have to make an investment in tools to get the job done. They are looking to make money, not waste time to vandalize.

Yup! Most of them, if not all of them....steal the tools that they use to steal from you. I don't live that far from Carrollton, and catalytic converter thefts have hit my area hard too. That's why I:

    1) Park my truck in the garage 100% of the time.
    2) Had a cat shield installed. I know it isn't a guarantee to stop them, but it's a great deterrent!

Both of those links show alarms, that take batteries. Meaning if a thief wants to bypass them, he can simply remove the cover and then remove the AAA batteries inside them. That makes that product absolutely worthless.

People need to stop being cheap when it comes to protecting their assets.

Depends on where you live. Anybody brazen enough to try that in my area will be in jail very soon.

Time... the more it takes the less likely and would not they have to break into your vehicle, find the alarm and then remove the batteries ?

Tacoma's have 4... 2 primary and 2 secondary... probably the same on the Tundra's.

The wait time on cats for some vehicles is nearing six months. I would definitely care if I was without my truck for six months.

Anyone know of a cat shield that will work with the TRD OEM skid plate?
