True - and they do stand behind the one year warranty on PARTS only regardless of installer credentials. Just have to look for the paperwork to fill out and electronically submit. Got my cooler container cap replaced this way - leaks under pressure - new replacement part is now part of the Magnuson package.

Due for an oil change. Should I just use the same oil as n/a or is there a better option for use with s/c?

Same as GoldenBrew, I use the same as before but I am 7500 between oil changes. I'll be running an analysis on this oil change so I'll have better info in a few weeks.

Thanks, Guys. I bought the truck at 19k miles with the supercharger already installed and just want to make sure I am aware of any additional maintenance needs over and above a stock set up. I'll stick with the oem oil at 5k mile intervals to be on the safe side.

@81malibu81 have you looked to see if it has a breather catch-can? (or 2).

if it has one, it needs emptying at least with each oil change. An overfull catch-can is much worse than not having one at all.

if it does not, then consider adding at least one, on the PCV line, to minimize the oil vapor coating the SC water-to-air Heat-x.

@grooverider "I was thinking about installing a boost gauge anyways.. but the fitting isn't installed yet :|"

Tagged you here, for the Maggy discussion, was feeling like we hijacked Yotawerx string. This is more appropriate for anything that is not the tune.

Installing the boost gauge fitting after SC is installed is not going to be easy, the fitting is tight to that wire bundle with the hard plastic tray. I believe most people use a street 90 elbow in there. Pretty sure that is what I used, but I did on the bench. I recall that I tried to use a 90el and a close nipple, simply so it would tighten and point in my preferred direction. There was NO ROOM for the additional length of the close nipple, must be a street fitting. Am not sure if a street 45 would work? Maybe others here can comment.

I am pretty sure someone here added it with the SC installed, so it can be done, but I cannot imagine. Expect it will be a fight.

Do check that the Maggy pump is circulating, there have been a couple reports of failed pumps. Don't remember why, but performance would drop notably with hot charge air. Take the cap off with it running, the flow should be vigorous and obvious.

    Good Luck.

For the record I don't mind that it was in the YW thread. It's helpful info. So by all means feel free in the future.

Hey all, anyone have a clear understanding of how the Tacoma service interval works on our 3rd gen Tacoma's. I did the last oil change early, and I believe I reset the service indicator (though it was not indicating need for service at the time), but if I recall correctly, there was not any confirmation of the re-set. Few miles on the truck, so that was the 1st time resetting it. Any how, i noted the miles, and plan to change at 5k mi. But the 'maintenance necessary' message is now coming up, and according to my log, I still have 1,400 miles before hitting 5k.

Can you tell from this if I failed to properly reset at the last oil change? Or is it that the computer varies the oil change interval, with how hard the truck is worked, and it interprets that it has been worked hard?

If it is the latter, then this seems likely to be for the SC. I have towed, but not may miles. Could the SC be somehow indicating hard work to the computer?

Separate question: I have a 2nd gen 4.0, and want to delete the AC compressor. Anyone able to steer me to info for serpentine changes, or where to find serpentine belts by width and length?

Thanks in advance, don't know how i ever did without all the shared knowledge from you guys on TW!!

I own an 09 taco plow truck and a 2020 taco, both AT, and I do not drive the 2020 in salty winter. Put the 2020 away two weeks ago, and currently working a project out of town for a couple weeks, so driving a lot. I must say that I find it incredible and am baffled, by how the transmission on the 09 is flawless compared to the 2020. And the 2020 includes with the SC and Yotawerx tune upgrades (the 2020 does now have more power post SC). I just can't get over how the 09 transmission is always in the right gear (never hunts for a gear), and launching from a dead or slow start is smooth, steady and with force. The 09 launch is missing the jerking, lurching, and falling on its face to then pull ferociously again, and the indecisiveness of which gear it should be in.

How is it that over the span of 11 years, Toyota can forget how to create/tune an AT. the 09 drives like a better truck; all it needs is a lot less rust, and a little more power. I can honestly say that driving the 09; All I miss is the SC, and the fresh paint.

EPA and trying to hit emissions standards have given us terrible gearing and abominable shifting.

Lots of great 0w-20 oils out there, but Amsoil and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum have tested to be the “best,” meaning they flow best, resist heat best, and reduce wear the most. If you’re running FI and want peace of mind these are good choices.

I hope this generates a fresh thread - couldn't find a link specifically to do that:
I've decided pull the trigger on upgrading to a Magnusson super charger. My issue is that (from their website) their only installers are in Phoenix. And of the two I reached out to one only installed on cars and the other suggested I reach out to TacomaWorld ;)
Can anyone point me in the direction of an installer in or near the Tucson area?

I am no help with finding an installer.

I can say that installing yourself, is not very difficult. The instructions are very thorough with many pictures, and you have LOTS of support here on TW. Installing the tune is intimidating at first, but there is tons of support on TW for setting up the software, and installing the tune.

You do need some decent tools, but nothing fancy, and some time. I took more than a couple days to install, but I also converted to electric fan and larger radiator at the same time.

If you have mechanical ability, I would suggest you do some home work, reading the instructions, and setting up the software for installing the tune, hook up to the truck and make sure you understand the tune install process, then install the SC yourself.

I also recommend you consider getting a tune from YotaWerx, the tune is great, and Mark is great to work with.
