I typically see most rear shocks in the 9-10 travel range, chance that they are measured different?

Interested in the 2.0 kit, just want that sweet sweet travel baybeh!

Right...having looked through a hundred entries after searching on "toytec rebuild", it seems that a bunch of entries talking about it are here. *grin*

I have a blown seal on the LR shock as of yesterday, and it's a remote-reservoir 2" body (apparently Radflo-based) "Toytec BOSS" unit. I called the shop that did the work, they don't have the nitrogen system needed. Called Toytec, the rep gave me a couple places to check around here...Chi-Town 4x4 isn't answering the phone & has a full VM - with their website saying that they're not taking new appointments but expect to do so "in August 2021". The other (Alpha Auto) doesn't have the nitrogen setup needed either.

So, the long & short of it is: does anyone know of a place *in Chicagoland* who can rebuild this thing that *isn't * CPW (the installer), Chi-Town 4x4, or Alpha Auto? Otherwise I'll just put a pair of something that will serve for the winter, and deal with it in the spring.

So, not seeing anything here for responses - not a surprise given the short interval and the time of year - I swapped-in a set of OEM-style shocks and did some minor further investigation. Turns out that these are the type with a standard Schrader valve fitting on the reservoir, and the spec literally is marked around that valve..."150-200 PSI". So, now all I need do is find a tire place with nitrogen fill capability and a regulator that goes to that level. Commercial tire shop might have that.

Looks like I'll be getting a pair of rebuild kits and some shock oil for them, will do both because it would be stupid not to. Plus I can de-rust the iron portions and coat them to prevent recurrence, as well as improving the appearance of the brushed aluminum portions - and coating them as well.

Toytech BOSS 2.0 on my 2022 DCLB. Fantastic ride quality and they look great with the red springs and pieces.

    Hey all,
I'm looking between getting the Boss 2.5 with remote reservoirs or Dobinson MRR's, both kits are around the same price when fully priced. I know this is a Toytec thread but curious if anybody here had any regrets about going one way or the other.

Anybody have any input? my only hold up is that Toytec doesn't have an option for rear remote resis and I don't want to overheat the shocks, and for rebuilding I live in Denver now but I'm not sure where I'll be in 5 years so rebuilding Toytec's might become more of a pain.

I've heard great things about both, just looking for some insight.

I have no regrets on my toytech. I AM disappointed that they say running a top spacers on the front coilover will void their warranty. I like a more level look and their kit is set up to be higher in the back.
Other than that small "con", I love mine

Question for those of you with the aluma series. Do you guys have any squeak in the front lower bushing with them? I have the 2.5 non resi and the front lower bushing is squeaking bad. It slowly started a little bit here and there but now it's gotten bad. I know this is where the squeak is coming from because if I loosen up the bolt and bounce the truck up and down there is no squeak. If I torque or make sure it's gootintighten it squeaks and I even tried to lube them up and it still squeaks. I have sent an email to them to see if there is a replacement bushing but I know they did have issues with the lower bushing early on. These are out of warranty and only have about 15k on them so I'm a little disappointed with them. Other than the squeak they have been great.

Read the last few posts in the Elka megathread. Elka makes the the Toytec Aluma series shocks. Some members have been having the same problem with the spacers and bearings in the bottom of their Elka shocks. I'd imagine Elka would have used the same parts in the Toytec shocks. Apparently you should be able to call Toytec or Elka and get replacement parts.

I did know that Elka made the and I've contacted Toytec already but I didn't know about the Elka thread so I will take a look at that. It's weird to because some days it will be perfectly quiet and other it won't stop. I thought I had heard that this was only an issue on the early ones and I the newer ones don't have this issue. I've been thinking about just buying a new set if this is the case but I'm waiting to hear back from Toytec.

Yeah i'm not sure exactly if it was a bad batch or they were just using an inferior part or whatever. I just got new Elka coilovers direct from their factory a month ago. So in theory they should be using the latest parts. But they don't look noticeably different from the ones guys are having problems with in that thread. That's not to say that Elka isn't using new spacers/bearings that just look the same though. I guess time will tell.

In any case, you shouldn't need new shocks. Just new misalignment spacers and maybe bearings.

I recently got the Aluma 2.5s with remote reservoirs in front. I haven't installed them yet, and my main concern is a stiff ride with the 700 lbs spring. I have steel sliders, steel skids, and a mid-rise fiberglass topper. 3rd Gen DCLB. So, my truck is a little on the heavier side, but not that bad, especially up front. I will be pairing this set up with the Icon RXT leaf pack and SPC UCAs.

To reduce any stiffness, I'm thinking about not having any preload at all on the springs. How much lift does the coilover provide without any preload? Honestly, I'm only hoping for 1.5 - 2 inches. Thanks!

    @Toytec Lifts any thoughts?

Although I don't know the standard preload for these coils, Toytech or Elca would, I do know I have never owned a coilover that didn't have some preload. 1/4" or 1/2" there has been a preload. Idk if absolutely no preload is advised.
I'd contact one of the two aforementioned retailers for safety purposes.
