I replaced the outside door handles. A few weeks ago, the passenger side, inside door handle doesn't open the door anymore. Seems like something broke, like one of the tabs that keep the little rods in place. The outside handle on that door still works. Haven't gotten to that yet, since I never use the inside door handle on the passenger door, and there's so damned many other things I am going to fix, that's very low on the list.

lol…. Just be patient. You’re on the right track.. It takes a little time to get the ol’ girl back in shape.. When I start on my 97, it’s going to take a while too. When you get something used, you sometimes pay for someone else’s sins….

You're right about that. The things that frustrated me the most, were things that were clearly done like crap, to cover issues, by shady used car dealers. Like the plastic dip fender flares. Also mismatched touch up spots all over the truck. Which didn't bother me too much, because I don't need a truck that looks like it sits in a showroom, I prefer a truck that runs well, and doesn't leave me stranded. My dad owned an auto body shop when I was a kid, so I can spot things like that a mile off. Also the bed, being horribly repainted. That I didn't see, until a pressure washer knocked off a grapefruit sized flake of white paint, exposing an ugly green color underneath, that still had clear coat. Who paints a truck or car, right on top of the original clear coat? I mean you can't even take the time to prep it, even a little? That screams car flipper. That was a new one for me. Plus I wonder why it wouldn't have the original bed on it. Likely an unreported collision.

I enjoy working on my own trucks, and learning how to fix things. So I was happy to do it. It's just when something pops up I don't have a lot of knowledge about, and can't figure out, I get frustrated. It always seems like I'll get pissed off, and then my problem solving skills really kick in.

My biggest regret in life, is not having much interest in auto mechanics when I was young, so I didn't really learn much from my dad, who was one of those guys who could build a car from the ground up. In his day, he was probably one of the best painters there were at that time.

Live in the age of U tube now.....between that and these guys....pretty much held every replaceable part on the truck in my hand......knew how to work on motorcycles and bicycles before, early 70's mopar, and that was it......except maybe for oil changes and belts.....

Most things on these trucks are a breeze, but these guys here are for when u really need help or cant find a part....they're like a wolf pack......

Cringeworthy seeing that paint between the terminal clamp and lugs. :annoyed: I could maybe understand there being paint applied on top AFTER the terminal clamp and lugs are connected to help protect from corrosion, although you'd more commonly see something like a battery terminal grease or aerosol spray used instead. Anyway, glad you got OP squared away.

Not trying to defend it or say it's ideal, but it's not completely unheard of to paint over the original clear coat assuming it's still intact and is prepped (scuffed) properly. Out of curiosity did the exposed clear coat look like it had been scuffed up at all or was it still smooth/glossy?

To each their own but I never use pressure washers on my vehicles, including my MX bikes. A garden hose w/adjustable nozzle spray, some soap, and APC (not on exterior paint) is all you need.
