Without even considering the huge hassle and the anger having Cats stolen would cause most people, insurance companies are greedy and as crooked as they come. You don’t think they’ll raise the rates of people who make claims? And then eventually everyone’s rates over time? Stupid answer.

I’ve lived all over and I’ve never once seen a security guard at a HomeDepot (lots of temporary ‘camera trailers’ but no guards) I highly doubt a cashier is gonna try and tackle some meth-head-thief after he steals and is riding away on his bicycle (and if employees did tackle him, they’d prob get shit from management for it) Think police response times for shoplifting are fast enough to catch them? Nope.

I’m sorry but society has changed so much in just the past few years that shoplifting isn’t even close to being ‘brazen’ anymore. It’s definitely worse in the big cities but it’s trickling down to rural areas. I’d guess that all relatively expensive tools and items will be locked in cabinets in the next few years.

Deterrents like cat shields aren’t 100%, but physically, they’re the best legal way to stop a Cat thief.

Just put in a piece of straight pipe until the cats arrive. If the police can’t be bothered to arrest these criminals then they certainly aren’t going to care about someone driving around without cats.

This is pretty much the case. Retailer loss prevention training for workers instructs them not to confront shoplifters. Mainly for safety reasons, but also to avoid any potential liability for false imprisonment (a worker detaining someone they thought stole something but actually didn't). The concentrate on inventory control....securing items above a certain dollar value, adding tags that will cause an alarm to go off at the door if not removed at checkout, taking frequent inventories, etc.). Retailers build shrink into the prices we pay at the store.

You need to find better insurance if your rates go up over a comprehensive claim where you weren't at fault. Besides, rates have already skyrocketed in recent years because of huge spike in accidents caused by people playing with cell phones. Texting drivers is a matter worthy of actual concern, given the 10's of thousands of deaths they've caused. Comparatively, stolen catalytic converters is a drop in the bucket for insurance companies. Stolen cats is a subject worth zero wasted mental energy, given the lack of life threatening/altering consequences. Stupid reply.

I'm in Texas, DFW. They tried to steal the cat on my T4R twice! DumbA$$es didn't get it.
I though the TX state legislature passed a law that you had to provide id and proof of ownership when you sold these things for recycling?

Was showing a mechanic my cat shield
He said he has 2 cars waiting weeks to get replacements
Funny thing is they never report this on the crime reports in my area
I got the cat shield after they cut my neighbors out of his element
Had the guys on camera, pulled up in a stolen Range Rover
    Never got them

I took delivery of a 2022 Tacoma Pro on August 8th and had the Miller Cat Shield installed shortly thereafter. There was no problem with the TRD Pro skid plate.

Ignorant statement of the week welcome to friday.

You may care when you find out it will be 4 months before you can get a replacement cat and while they were cutting your cat out they cut through your brake line and fuel line and also partially cut into your frame. But maybe you don't care that you'll be looking at your truck that you cant drive sitting in the driveway collecting dust.

    Prevention is the best insurance.

Is the aluminum close to as good as the steel? I am trying to keep weight down.

It seems like a pretty simple solution to the problem if we just made it impossible for the thieves to sell their stolen cats. But the scrap yards are profiting off of the stolen products too so they don’t care. They probably actually profit more by paying less to the crack head thieves than to legit muffler shops.

I got aluminum for the weight savings. I think once they see the cats covered up they'd rather go elsewhere than spend the extra time under your truck. I used blue loctite on the passenger side panel fasteners... none on the drivers side panel (need access for greasing the driveline zerks.) All other fasteners got red loctite.

This was the first mod I did to my truck a day after I picked it up from the dealer. I ordered a cat shield days before picking up the truck so both would be at my place at the same time.

I had a cat shield on my 2nd gen for 13 years and parked in some ghetto places and never had them stolen. Someone did try to loosen 2 bolts though and gave up. 2 bolts from a cat shield don’t just lay on the ground when your truck has been parked at the store for an hour.

I have an extra exhaust system, including cats, just in case I get jacked by someone. Still probably gonna get a cat shield though...

The MillerCat Shield is compatible with the TRD skid plate. I don't have the skid plate, but I installed it myself and it was super easy. Here's Chloe Kuo's video about it, she has the TRD skid plate! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7umjPPs4xJY

Are there any problems with that shield trapping too much heat in? It doesn’t seem like there will be much air flow.
