    This one works great. Use it on my 4Runner oil changes.

    @Jesse46
    Last time I used an extension with the motive wrench I stripped the extension hole. :annoyed: Switched to using a socket and 1/2 ratchet to break the canister loose and haven't had any issues since. :fingerscrossed:

    In this case, a free oil change was not worth the price.

    The older one with the slots reported from dealers cracked many of those housings, and caused them to leak, the newer version doesn't, and works very well. I was told this right from a rep at motvix.

    I assumed it (the screwdriver) was in reference to the do-fus who over tightened?

    I think you're fine - get it when you can as soon as you can.

    Personally - I run synthetics and consider the filter change to be a bit more important to me than necessarily hitting a specific miles on the oil. For context - I've worked with and at some of the largest trucking/transportation companies in the world. Our engineers worked directly with petroleum engineers and OEMs. Oil tends to get dirty before it "wears out" so I want my filter always working and available to get the dirt first and foremost. So in an EGR engine that dumps soot into the oil pretty heavy - we'd go 75k miles on an OCI (With data that said we'd probably be okay to 125k) so long as we were replacing filters on a 25-35k cadence. Vastly different volume/systems than the 3.5 of course but the 3.5 puts a lot less demand on the oil too.

    For me - I go 5-6k on oil but always make sure I find the best filter I can, especially when it comes to efficiency.

    How in the absolute fuck do you strip the socket hole out? Never in my life have I heard of anyone accomplishing that. It can’t move once it’s in there and it’s just one size :rofl:

    Those oil filter caps are only supposed to be torqued to 18 ft. lbs. and the filter drain plug 10 ft. lbs. Basically hand tight, never use the wrench to tighten it unless its a torque wrench. Even with it hand tight the caps can still be a bear to get off because of the heating and cooling cycles.

    Would not surprise me if a large percentage of the dealers skip the filter change.

    When it's 100 plus degrees outside in AZ metal is soft. Also, the filter cartridge was over torqued. :benchpress:

    There is a crapload of seal drag on these canisters. It was not "over-torqued".

    Use a 1/2" breaker bar that is at least 20" or longer, get the correct canister "wrench" and slowly with torque turn the bar counterclockwise; proper tecnique needed.

    Using a 3/8" wrench doesn't play well neither does going fast.

    Hes a man taking apart a neglected 2.7, not sure what it has to do with the topic at hand.
