Anybody have experience running the Icon RTX leaf packs with about 400-450lbs of constant load? My rig has the TRD Lift Kit - my thought was to remove the cast iron spacer it's using for the rear lift and then just slot in the RTX packs. My main question is if the Option 2 setup would be sufficient for that load or if I'd need the full pack (Option 3).

My constant load is from a GFC platform camper, CaliRaised Trial Sliders, and a drawer system with camping gear.

    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

IMO I’m running rxt option 2 I’m very light. With your weight rxt options are good for lighter loads. I would get Deaver IMO. Icon option 3 might work has 600 lb load rating

How light is "very light" :) ? I see that Option 3 has a 600# rating - worried that would ride way too harsh

I have full armor skids sliders all steel. Weight I have camping gear in bins etc. ride on option 2 is not harsh at all. With all your weight I would definitely go option 3

Gotcha - Deavers are really nice but also a bit pricier. I know "cry once, buy once" but I've also read lots of good review for the RTX package - I'm also really a fan of the adjustability; just in case down the road I decide to sell the camper or something like that.

I've got an RSi shell (180-200lbs), sliders, full skids and run RTX option 2. Works great for me so far.

How is all that stuff only 400-450 pounds? I know the GFC is lighter than my old Habitat, but with a relatively simple build plus swingout and sliders I was about 1000lbs+ constant load.

GFC is only about 250lbs, sliders are 100lbs total, and my drawers are made from UHMWpe & plywood so they're under 70lbs. I don't keep all my camping gear loaded all the time so as a DD I'm looking at about 400-450lbs.

It would NOT be harsh. I also have the TRD lift and did exactly what you want to do. Replaced the block and springs with Icon RXT on option 3 (And a 3 degree shim as long as I was in there). This is my "Pre" camping daily driver loadout. RTT, awning, rack, softopper. In the bed is a bed mat, Hy-Lift, full size traction boards. And misc stuff in the boxes. I estimate around 300 lbs. Rides very smooth and not harsh at all. Loaded for camping, and I can still hit the bump stops sometimes.

EDIT: Forgot sliders, so probably closer to 400 lbs.

I'm a big believer in going Deaver if you're gonna upgrade. Originally I planned to go Expedition Stage 2, but my friend convinced me on going Stage 3 and I'm extremely glad I did. Even when I completely empty my truck, the ride is still decent. My understanding is the number of thinner leaves on the Deavers gives a more compliant ride on varying loads. I have 9 leaves plus two overloads. Stage 3 may be overkill for you, but I'd definitely look into Stage 2 with your GFC.

Did you also use a shim for the carrier bearing? That's a sweet looking build you've got there! Happy to hear my thinking wasn't too out of line with reality.

I suppose that's the real decision point - the RTX pack vs the Deavers Expeditions.....

With either choice of leaf packs, what do you guys think: carrier bearing shim AND degree axle shim or just one or the other?

I've done neither, so no input from me. My truck is usually sitting at close to stock ride height so not an issue for me. When my truck is empty, and therefore ridiculously high in the rear, I haven't felt any vibrations or other oddities. But not a lot of miles like that. More often it's loaded with SOMETHING heavy.

That's good information to have. I might try doing things without either and if I feel any vibrations throw on a carrier bearing shim since that's super easy to do.

I thought I was having bad vibrations from adding the rear leafs and such... finally realized it was my tires!

Ive got a longbed trd4x4 with a gfc camper, sliders, hybrid bumper with winch and lights, fridge and solar battery plus some VNCLR bags in the corners. For the suspension im on king 2.5s with resis and adjusters in all 4 corners with wheelers bumps tops and icon rxt in option 3 for the rear with hammer hangars. I started with option 2 but found the springs to sit flat with a load. Now, it rides the same, no added harshness or anything, and I can carry a full load without flattening my springs.

Thanks for the compliment! I did just the axle shim. I think I feel a very slight vibration starting from a dead stop up to about 5 mph. But it is so slight, I may be imagining it. No other vibration at any speed. The carrier bearing would be easier to do later. I think with a constant load, you may be good either way or even without anything. I did the axle shim just cause I didn't want to pull it apart again later.

I almost wish I went with something a little heavier duty. Like I mentioned, fully loaded I still hit the bumps once in awhile. But since that is only a few times a year, I'll live with it.

I would also recommend doing a u-bolt flip and better bump stops as long as it is pulled apart. And extended rear brake lines too. I didn't like how tight they were at full droop.

I have a decked system full of tools, so probably a constant load of 300lbs. I’m on RXTs set on stage 1. Ride is fantastic, holds the weight just fine and I still have a little rake front is 6112’s at 1.5”.
