These are actually getting very popular. The more angular L300 is far more common, but this is the second weekend I've seen a Delica at a car show; I've actually driven an L400/Space Gear, but it wasn't a diesel like this one...

This is a 1993 Mitsubish Delica L300, also called a Star Wagon. The L300, which is my favorite of the two, was virtually unchanged in terms of basic styling from the late 1980s until production ended in 1998. The L400 debuted for the 1994 model year and was sold alongside the L300 until 1998. An American version of the L300/Star Wagon, simply called the Mitsubishi Van, was sold here from about 1986 to 1990 in small numbers. It was not available with 4WD like the Delica seen here, and they did not sell many of them. Most Mitsubishi Vans were sold on the West Coast, so seeing an American-spec one around here is incredibly uncommon, and the RHD Delica is a far more common sight since DelicaUSA is located right in Philly...

Yup, that would be a HiAce. It was sold here until 1989 as simply the Toyota Van and was far more common than the Mitsubishi Van. The Previa was sold here from 1991 to 1997, but they continued to make the HiAce for other markets until at least 1999, and once again thanks to the 25-year loophole it is now totally legal to bring them here! Just like Delicas versus US-market Mitsubishi Vans, I have far more JDM HiAces than US-spec Toyota Vans here in the Northeast.

Also, that cute girl with the glasses in the rooftop tent is the owner of the L400!

That think looks like it has a short wheel base?
Wonder what the stability is like?

I like this one better than the other.

I saw this sweet 1993 Nissan Hardbody just around the corner from the Witch Museum, and it's an automatic; I saw these trucks everywhere when I was a kid, and my dad almost bought a 1995 model in 1998. All of the ones I remember seeing had a manual transmission, but automatic transmission models seem to be more common than I thought. Like Toyota pickups of the same era, automatic models have column-mounted shifters. I see a light blue 1986 Nissan pickup at Carlisle in 2021 that had an automatic transmission and was extraordinarily similar to this gray 1993 model. Unless this truck has spent most of its life in a garage, I find it hard to believe that it has always been a Massachusetts truck, since it is so clean (minor rust bubbling on fenders, but that's about it)...

Ahh, the formerly dime a dozen vehicle that’s now cool because most were beat to hell and then crushed.

And a lot of them are being chopped up and turned into lowriders and custom minitrucks...

Random thought, but I wonder how electric vehicles will fare once they go truly mainstream. We’ve always had such diversity with vehicles. Lifted trucks, lowered trucks, racer boy Eclipses, etc. How will electric vehicles, the equivalent of driving a toaster currently, handle the modded car scene?

I don't think gas and diesel vehicles are going anywhere in our lifetime, and I don't think we'll have the infrastructure to have a majority of electric vehicles until like 2050...
