I’ll second the look at diamondback. Check the B S T here and look on marketplace, etc…

What's your budget and how do you use the bed of your truck?

Do you move furniture, large items, lumber, and building materials a lot? Bed space is premium, get a cover that folds against the cab.
Throw mountain bikes over the tailgate? again, get a cover that folds against the cab, or they won't fit.
Just want a cover and don't use the bed? OEM or style where the last panels do not fold up against the cab is fine. Pulling this style off to use the whole bed is a pain. I don't care what people say, I had a fold a cover on a 2005 for 12 years and did not like taking it off to use the whole bed.
    Diamondback and Retrax $$$

Backflip mx4, Undercover, leer 650/350 basically the same and same price point. some features are different between the 3.

    Check build thread!
I had a Bakflip MX4. Wasn’t a fan. Leaked. I sold it and bought a besttop softtopper. I like it. Not quite as secure but I live downtown and haven’t had an issue.

Hi there. I have some questions for those with Diamondback covers.
    • If one is not going to add a rack, tent, carry an ATV or other ‘heavy’ items on top of the cover other than the occasional odd box or two that won’t fit under the cover, is the SE more than enough?
    • Have you ever doubted your decision to go with the Diamondback vs a different cover (tri fold/roll-up/retracting) that allows “on the fly” access to the whole bed? Such as when you’re running errand or buying stuff at Lowe’s/Home Depot spur of the moment?
    • What are some of the things that you DON’T like about the Diamondback, things that you didn’t realize until after having it for a while?

Any other words of wisdom you can offer regarding making the decision to buy/not buy one of these covers? They're pricey, hence me asking lots of questions

This is on the top of my list. How much space does the storage box take up?

I've got the OEM soft top trifold, but bottom line is, if they want to take a peek inside, they just need a knife.

I have the SE and love it. Looks great, haul stuff on top of it if I want, relatively dry (get a little leakage at the bulkhead corners). I rarely haul anything oversized in the bed so removal isn't a factor for me. It does come of rather easily though. I typically keep 6 to 8 grand worth of stuff in my bed so security was one of the biggest factors for me.

Idk, soft top oem trifold? My oem one is like 3/4 plywood covered in vinyl with a steel frame underneath. No knife is going to cut into that. You can stand on the oem cover.

    Had OEM
After a few years it leaked like a sieve.

I now have Diamondback and extremely happy with it. Bed actually stays dry.

Most aftermarket ones are pretty simple to break into so they really aren't that secure more so just keep eyes from seeing what's in the bed helping to deter.

I live and work in Toronto, biggest city in Canada. I wouldn't say I worried with OEM but I feel a lot better with Diamondback for security.
And before getting Diamondback I looked at every other option whether it be bakflip retrax etc

I was in this position a few months ago.
I've since realized no issues. When at Costco and needs to transport a BBQ it went on the top.
At home Depot doing remodeling and needing plywood or drywall it goes on the top.
I've also since added L track for more tie down options and to carry my bike and wife's bike on the cover

And one thing I will say the benefit of only opening half the bed including the side by the cab and not needing to open the tailgate to open said cover is a huge benefit to me.

And as long as I don't have the strap on the rear wheel tightened I can open either side of the cover.

And can probably see in the photo when I park I'm against a fence at home from laneway parking so prior to Diamondback it was a pain in the ass to open the old OEM cover I had because you could barely open the tailgate. Could only open it enough to get your hand in to open the cover

The regular Lomax covers 1/3 of the box but the Lomax Stance folds up against the back window.

The way you phrased this cracked me up! :rofl:Diamondback is probably most secure but if you are trying to save some money, any hard tonneau will probably due. If they really wanna get in there they will but if they cant see anything worth taking they will probably move on.

I think its the way some bozo installs the oem cover that it would leak. Mine hasn't from day one. Maybe a couple drops during a severe thunderstorm with high winds.

I'm not a fan of how you need to stick the mounting clips to the roof of the cab with that cover. I'd recommend an Undercover Armorflex to anyone looking for a hard folding cover.

Bakflip MX4. You can lock the tailgate, and its reasonably secure. Someone could still probably take a prybar or angle grinder to it, but that'd be bold. I'm not in love with it, but its a bit more flexible than a diamondback cover (and slightly cheaper).

I agree and if it was available when I bought my Lomax, I wouldn't have bought it.

I see a ton of the OEM hard covers(and others) on Marketplace and Craigslist. May try looking there.
