I have a 2020 TRD Off Road. We use it for very minor off roading, really just dirt roads or the deer lease. The crawl system, etc. will probably never be used. I'm thinking of trading or selling it and getting an SR5 4x4. To me, there is a lot of bells & whistles that aren't getting used.

What would I lose, if anything, by going from OR to SR5? Besides tire size and some suspension.

Tires, Softopper, fully armored, winch, many pinstripes.
I run trails in my SR5 with lifted TRDs with 285 tires and can do almost everything they do. Last trip I did all but 20 second of the trip in 2wd without issue. I went through mud, water, steep hills and other things I assumed I'd need 4wd for, but it handled it just fine.

When I started looking I thought about getting an SR and adding the options that I wanted and then the wife said
heck honey just go with the SR5 and get everything you need and nothing you don't. I do like the slightly better look
of the TRD - there's a TRD Access Cab same color as my SR5 Access cab down the street - it's a good looker for sure.

But I don't do serious off road stuff... the V6 / 4WD is plenty capable for what I would do with it - I like my SR5 just fine.

You'll get a pretty penny for your 2020 but the question is can you find a 2022/2023 to replace it with.

If you can at least break-even on price I say go for it. You'll be getting 2+ years newer, warranty will be fresh, and you'll have a new vehicle.

Same year and mileage? If so the dealer making money on both will be a wash at best.

You will loose more resell value later.
If you can make more NOW on the resell/trade, go for it.

If you don’t use the OR functions. I don’t think you have much to loose.

There are a few things, but based on what you described, there's nothing you'll miss. The real question is, do you need a new truck? Consider cost and availability vs what you already have.

I got an sr5 over a trd offroad because I knew I'd never use the locker, and I knew I was gonna upgrade the suspension wheels and tires anyway regardless of what trim I bought. I also did NOT want a sunroof or leather seats. And call me old fashion, but I like having a key. Push to start just seems like one more thing to deal with if it fails for whatever reason

Sr5 also doesn't have qi wireless charging (who cares) and no converter in the bed

Worst thing that will happen is that you will be kicked out of the OR owners club. Could be life changing so consider carefully

You don't mention any financial reason to want to make the switch. To me, that would be the only reason to even consider trading down. It would have to be a substantial difference, especially in this market. Have you gotten any quotes on a new SR5 and trade in on your OR?

Stick with the OR! Better to have it and not need it then need it and wish you had it! (rear locker at least!)

If you had a compelling financial reason - ok.

You already own the OR. Having crawl or other options but not using them don't hurt you in any way so what's the advantage of not having them?

It's not like you're hoarding resources from others and being magnanimous in "letting the OR go for someone else".

YMMV but I'd keep the OR and just save the hassle.

SR's are a great choice, but in your case, you will lose money in the end, just on taxes and fee's alone. Not to mention resale value. Better to have more than less, since you already have it.

Now if you owned the "Sport Bra", I could see your reasoning.... :bananadance:

I don’t see any benefit to trading down. Money will be a wash and you’ll probably end up paying some to switch. But I’m also one of them manual dudes so the SR5 isn’t on my radar at all.

Either way I’d keep what you have, as stated above there is no detriment to having the extra features you don’t use. I have an OR as well and I don’t use really any of the OR features. I got it because I couldn’t find a sport and I wanted a stick. Doesn’t mean I have to go offroading all the time.

If you don't want to use the advanced 4WD features in your OR, then just don't use them. What value do you gain by trading it in on an SR5?

The whole deal might be a wash ... From the prices I'm seeing up here, today's SR5 price is probably close to what you paid for the Off Road two years ago. My gut says this is the wrong economy to trade any truck when you're gonna replace it with another truck. But it's your money and your truck, you're the only one that has to be happy with the deal; well your wife and you. I wish you luck and happiness.

My buddy had a 2019 trd or with all that crap, and never used it either. It was one of the reasons i stayed with an sr5. This truck is even more capable than i first thought it'd be, plus its got all i will ever need. Imo, it performs better than his year old trd which had vibrations, shifted wonky, and was sluggish in the power dept. Really comes down to the numbers they offer you. I don't think you'll regret not having the trd anymore if making the swap.

Another thing I'd consider is that interest rates on car loans are just about double what they were even a year ago, so unless you're picking up a factory subsidized financing deal your loan will be more costly.

If you currently have a DCSB, and want to trade for an access cab, or double cab long bed then trade for the SR5.

Buying a vehicle is never a good idea.

The two big reasons I went with an OR over an SR5 are the push button start (it’s really hard to go back to a regular key after you get used to it, at least it was for me) and the ability to easily upgrade to the OEM LED headlights down the road.

Good call on the Key - forgot about that - if dealer offered me a choice of either, for free, I'd take the SR5 on the key issue alone.
Seats could be plated in gold and I'd still take the SR5.
Give me keys or give me death.
