Thanks. It's working good also. The very first time I keyed the mike on 20m, I was able to contact VE6FI in Alberta, Canada. That's 3500 miles away! It sure gave me a boost of confidence.

I got the hood bonded today. I plan on doing the rest in the next week or so.

The radio can do HF and 30-50 MHz. 30-50 MHz is VHF Low Band. Therefore technically the radio is VHF capable. No edit required. Great radio. I’ve had one since they came out. Use a Tarheel screwdriver antenna for the HF part. Besides CB is In the HF 11 Meter Band anyway.

Oh, it's a San Francisco style radio. Gotcha.

The FM CB still isn't VHF.

Have you read the entire thread? Have you complained when people talked about GMRS installs as well? And 11 Meter CB is AM not FM in the US.

CB is FM as well in the US, you can reference WT Docket Number 10-119, issued 15 JUL 21. See FCC-CIRC2108-06

Thanks for the info. Interesting change last year. Still sticking with Ham though.

You're welcome. Same though I've been taught to appreciate the CB for spotting band openings.

So I'm totally dead-set against drilling holes into my truck. To each their own, I just like to keep things clean and leave myself the ability to remove something if I'd like.

I try to workaround everything stock I possibly can. So far, I've been able to get by quite well, with every mod I've done able to be undone (if I wish).

Which brings me to Radios. I have a VHF and a CB installed in my truck. Two whips, no magnets no holes. How, you ask? Well, this is what I came up with.

When all's said and done, it works really well for me. I was fine with drilling holes in the aftermarket bumper. I used heavy-grade adhesive velcro patches to mount them. There's space so they can vent, both have an extra in-line fuse, and the adhesive (if removed) comes off the plastic with rubbing alcohol (I tested it). I regularly use both radios, VHF is huge for road safety (animals, weather, breakdowns, fires, etc.) on LADD1 where I live. Final pic is just a front shot. I don't love the stock radio whip, I may switch it for a short one. But I do still actually listen to radio, so I'm undecided at this point.

I mounted my 2730A body in the same place but I found even the heavy duty velcro would unstick itself in high heat. What I did was take the console apart and used zip ties around the radio and console. They are thin enough to just slide through and around and they hold much better, plus no holes!!

the main radio body is small enough to fit behind the dash below the head unit and the microphone has all the controls and display on it, and the included mag mount antenna is small enough to put on the cowling between the hood and the fender next to the windshield on the drivers side. It’s a really clean install.

The unit up top is my Yaesu FTM-300D dual band radio and I keep the radio in my cubby with a accessory tray above it.

I have been trying to find a picture of someone who mounted a remote head XPR550 and I finally found one! Thank you!

The FCC recently opened up 11 meters for FM as well.

Yeah Taco 422 told me about that in the post following mine back in July. Interesting change after all these years.

I went for a factoryish look. The box is tucked behind the console on the trans hump. I can easily remove it without taking anything apart.

I made a bracket out of some scrap metal and mounted it to the firewall at the steering column brace/bracket with a couple spacers. It's a small window of space to get position perfect for lead and mic cord extension clearance but doable. I should have at least hit the bracket with some primer before mounting... oh well!

I have bearcat 980ssb and a wireless mic/speaker. The mic/speaker works with any 4 pin mic radio. I just wish I could find a ssb radio that fit in the arm rest. The 980 is too big I think.
