Putting the fuel rails back on today (or tomorrow). The injector oring kit I bought included the upper grommet that I've never seen installed. Leave these out right? With the grommet it would seem really awkward.

See pic below with and without grommet.

I would put them in the same configuration of how they came out. :notsure:

I dug through my photos from years back when I originally removed the injectors, no grommet. This was prior to sending the injectors off for cleaning/flow testing. I assume they were untouched from the factory but who knows, it was an old used truck.

Depends on if you need them or not. With the injectors in place & the fuel rail on, is there space for the grommets? They act as spacers.

The grommets would be smashed. The oring would not be very far inside the rail.

Then it sounds like you don't need them.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I was hoping somebody would recall or have photos, or specially know. I've seen photos of different Toyota injectors with this grommet installed. Here's a photo I found from a guys 3.4 build in another forum. His injectors are different though. Look how much exposed injector is above the grommet:

I would just go by what fits your engine rather than looking at pics of others. I've never had my injectors off my truck yet but when I worked on Hondas, some of them used those same type of spacer grommets, some didn't for the same style injector. Depended on the fuel rail & intake manifold (fuel rail mounted on the intake manifold & there were also different size spacers for the fuel rail mount).

With the injectors & fuel mounted, without those grommets if you aren't able to slide the injectors further into the fuel rail then you don't need em.

Look inside your fuel rail where the injector slides in. There should be polished spot where the old o-ring was sitting.

Yeah they're like mirrors inside. Hard to say where the oring was, they look beautiful.

I replaced mine recently and when I pulled them I didn’t have those grommets. I had the same ones as you.

The grommet on bottom seals as it should.....seals against the cup.
the o-ring is only thing that makes top liquid proof....
top gromment is not needed and would not seal correctly.....acomplishes nothing..
there's no counter seat....flat spot for em to seal against on rail bottom...

Thanks for all your input. I installed the rail yesterday and I agree, no top grommet for this application. Everything just seems to fit well as is. New orings are nice, everything fits really well. I'm pretty confident I'll have no more fuel leaks.
