just got my 22 trd offroad yesterday, loaded... has so many buttons lol.. gonna take a bit to get used to it. New tonneau going on tomorrow. Does the rear tailgate lock with the power locks? If not, I guess ya have to carry around the key for that lock they gave me? do people just leave the key in the truck somewhere to have it there? I really was liking carrying the fob around without a key. Thought? thanks all, very happy day today :)

    Oh look, another mod....
Yes, the rear tailgate locks with the power locks. Just press the lock button twice. That's what I do and it locks my tailgate. I also have a tonneau cover to protect stuff in the bed.

If you took the option. Power lock on tailgate is not stock, even on TRD Pros.

Yeah, my SR5 does not have a power lock for the tailgate. I have to use the key.

@Road_Warrior - I have an 2022 SR5 and am going to install the Toyota OEM power tailgate lock tomorrow. Toyota parts has a Labor Day sale going on now. 10% off their already discounted prices vs at the parts counter at the dealership. Go to https://parts.toyota.com/ put in part number: PK3B6-35JS0 if you have a DCSB and order it. In my area, its now $128.52 plus tax. Good luck !

I appreciate the link! I actually like having to use the key and having the tailgate lock independently from all the doors. I’ll keep that part number in mind though!

The keyfob should be able to lock the tailgate with the power lock. You'll always carry around the key if you're using the OEM keyfob, if valeting, lock your glove compartment, etc. hand the valet person your keyfob and keep your physical key.

I'm always trying to get my steps in, walking around to the tailgate to lock it and unlock it just helps that goal :)

There is a 'hidden' tailgate key in the FOB. It pops out.

My Sport didn't come with the power tailgate lock. Tried doing the key thing for a while, forgot half the time. Got the OEM power tailgate lock and never looked back. Now whenever I lock the truck I know the tailgate is locked and that with the power lock and Bakflip G2 the bed is about as secure as you can get it.

I purchased a loaded OR and it didn’t come with a locking tailgate. Had to purchase and install that myself. I bought the appropriate Toyota part and it locks on the first click.

I bought the OEM kit for my 2021 TRD Pro super easy install and one of my favorites. The piece of mind of the tailgate locked is worth the time/effort/money to install one.

Power tail gate lock is available as an option on all Tacomas.
I added it to my sr5. See part link above. Takes about an hour to install and the kit is well designed.
It connects to the passenger lock wiring so 2 clicks on the remote unlocks the tailgate and all the doors once it's installed.
