I doubt if you could run 1 call per hour, for 10 hours with an electric ambulance. I don't know if the EV with the most range could simply taxi somone to the hospital with in the parameters.

    https://electrek.co/2022/08/31/england-investing-ev-ambulance-fleet-dedicated-mental-health-crises/

There's a lot to unpack on this one. No mention of range, or expected call volume.

I'm no expert in EVs or ambulances but if you had a rapid charger right at the ambulance unloading area you could charge (even if only a little) between every call. I know, at least at the hospital my wife works at, the ambulances spend a fair bit of time parked at the hospital. Not likely the case everywhere of course.

Or charge at any DC fast charger. 120 miles is pretty good range and 10 year life of service. Doubles the petrol versions.

Dunno what a BLS transfer is but then they'd use another vehicle possibly? These look like short run inner city ambulances.

Like everything else brought up in this thread.... EVs may just not work for these long calls.

I think Range would be the limiting factor.

When and where would you charge during peak call volume?

I can't imagine an emergency room at the hospital having enough room to accommodate ambulance charging. Or having enough time inbetween calls to charge.

What's the range on an electric ambulance?

I am guessing the avarage round trip for a transport to the hospital is 25 miles.

Ha. I picked up on that... I was just discussing how "easy" it could be if your vehicle returns to the same base regularly through a shift.

There are times that the ambulance can't park at the dock to off load the patient.

How are they going to find a charger when they can't even park?

What about reroutes, when they are already enroute to the hospital, and have to travel another 20 miles across town to the next available hospital?
