My 2000 tacoma 2.4 doesn't seem to have any power while accelerating ie. like while trying to pass traffic. Other than that it runs like a sewin machine. Also no codes.

    Welcome to the forum!!

By runs like a sewing machine you mean the valves are so loose it clatters ?

2.4 how many miles ? Auto or manual ?

New to you vehicle ? A sudden dramatic power loss?

Just what have you done to cure the problem so far?

Just what are you comparing it with ?

Have you done a leak down or compression test?

The truck runs smooth. No misfires of any kind. Only when you try to pass or pickup sudden speed, it feels like it has no power until you floor it. The truck has around 48k miles. I've ruled out the catalytic converter, fuel filter, egr valve and plug wires, spark plugs and coils. I was thinking about replacing the fuel pump just because its 22yrs old. Also its and automatic.

Yeah a 2.4 auto will be slow no matter what you do

    Perhaps lower your expectations?
What plugs did you use... I put some brand new ac Delco plugs in my 2.7 than not even a couple months later i installed some oe densos... I feel like I gained 8hp, it Def got pepper and more mpg

Are you going head to head with another Tacoma 2.4 completely the same??

You need a baseline to work with .

It is a heavy slow vehicle not a high horse power muscle car.

Change all you want it might not get you the performance your looking for.

    Best of luck!!

No, I'm not expecting muscle car performance. Imagine getting on the highway and you need to pick up speed to get in front of someone and instead of gradually giving it gas, you have to literally floor it. Even at lower speeds, when you need to pick up speed, you have to floor it.

Check the kickdown cable if it has one, I am not familiar with these autos I these but if they are like most older autos it is a common issue to need to adjust this. It sounds like it isn't kicking down a gear on demand.

ETA: It could also be slipping clutches or other auto related maladies. Autos are pure madness and voodoo. But check the kickdown.

    Injector cleaner........
what u really need to do is drive around with live data on a scanner so you can watch maf - fuel trims - and smooth/correct throttle position sensor.....

I would not replace fuel pump at that milage.....unless tank has been sitting mostly dry for long time.....

could be ECT temp sensor or a number of things....without scanner....your just guessing...
as these trucks get older vacuum leaks creep in...... new vac lines and hoses are a must over time.......time will eat those.....especially the fluids......
    hoses/fluids experience the 'black death'.......

I would guess it is just the power it has and the need to floor it. You may just be feeling the power curve by flooring it and getting the revs into the higher range.

Pretty much have same truck but two yrs older....rwd...auto....
....when I stuck a new engine in 2rz(2.4).....also whent with stainless headers....
and cold air induction to get as much as I could out of her......
Still getting on highway..........EVERYBODY IS SHOOTING AROUND ME.....
its just too damn bad.....gets great milage......

I get fuel trims near +30 at highway speed.....prenty of air.....
to get any higher I'd have to get higher volume injectors.....aint no big deal...
Its the $2000 programable ecm to run it that would smart......

I need to do pretty much the same thing with my 3.4 Down shift to second gear and mash the right pedal
