Ok cool. I was kind of thinking the same thing, I was looking at some of the ROAM tents last night that weigh less than 100 pounds.

When I ordered my cap, the guy at the dealer said the weight limit was “around 200 pounds” but I think he was just going off the weight limit for the Yakima racks.

A RTT isn’t in the plan right now because my wife hates camping and I’m only 5’9 so I could make do with sleeping in the bed, hence why I didn’t spend the extra cash on an HD. Right now I just plan on using the roof rack for kayaks and maybe a bike.

I'm talking about the leading and trailing straps that are supposed to keep the boats near the truck when the rack is ripped off the top or the straps holding the boat to the rack got loose. You need those for safety. A winch bumper with bull bars would be a good place to strap the front straps to.

Ahh the bow and stern lines, yeah I’m going to have to find a good place to secure those once I get the cap since it will be different than my current set up.

Those of you with windoors: do you have any kind of lift on your trucks? I originally wanted windoors but the guy at the dealer said I more than likely would never use them, especially after getting a lift. I'm only 5'10" and will be getting a 2" lift on the truck.

Does anybody know the weight of the ARE CX for a short bed taco?

The only spec sheet I can find on the ARE website just gives generic numbers and doesn’t break it down by truck model. Seems like they estimate it at 175 pounds for a “full & mid size short bed” truck. Not sure how accurate that is to the Tacoma though.

Just trying to figure out load planning for a trip before my cap gets here. Thanks in advance.

I have a few more pics in my build thread if anyone is interested. Hopefully these are helpful to someone.

Does it have the aluminum panel or glass in the rear? Looks good. I love mine, I have the folding T handles though.

Guy selling caps is a dummy. You will use them all the time lol. Even with a lift. I'm 5'8" and have a 3" lift and use mine. Yes, it is more difficult, but get windoors at all costs.

I have glass in the rear because I didn’t want to lose 100% of the visibility back there. And thanks! Yeah it’s the best thing i’ve purchased for the truck so far.

I have Aluminum in all my panels and love it. Different strokes and all. My cap is also my favorite mod on my truck.

    Looks great!

Nice! I just clicked back and saw the pic you posted of your truck, it looks amazing! How is the shell holding up after a few years of use?

Ok for the most part. I do have some paint bubbling from around my handles though. I feel like I should care more about it than I do, but it is what it is. I use my truck for work and play, so after 6 years or so, it's starting to show some wear and tear.

Yeah that’s not bad at all. Especially for something you use for work and fun.

I’m so excited to put mine to use on a few upcoming trips. I’ve only had it for about a month or so because they took so long to build it that I missed being able to use it on my two biggest trips of the year. I was beside myself about that for a while lol
