Looking for a way to make my speakers louder (2021 Tacoma)

not through spotify. i play back uncompressed files through my phone via usb. (bluetooth as source is absolutely unlistenable.)

 

I get it. Audiophile.
I know better than to try and go any further, so I’ll just say that it may be worth the minimal effort it takes to try other sources and input methods when it comes to volume.
Is high fidelity worth it if you can’t hear the music?

 

once more... i agree that there are steps one can take to improve the deficiencies in the late model JBL systems. my comment was intended to corroborate the fact that these systems are really underpowered, and that it isn't restricted to 2022. there are a few threads in the audio sub-forum that cover this subject.

 

My ears are shot from motorcycles, so that might make a difference. But, for sure, the new speakers made a huge improvement. Especially, at low volume.

Need more information really, such as others have mentioned..what's your source? Throw in a CD if you have that ability and see how that sounds.

Might have the balance/fader levels off center.

As someone mentioned, check one speaker at at time and see if there's a weak one or more.

I'm not up on the JBL specific radio, as my 2010 did not have one. Moreover I had a complete aftermarket setup to use so mine was removed pretty fast.

 

I mean you could go over the edge like I did. 6 speakers, 2 amps, 800 watts.

 

I just replaced the head unit so it would push more power to all the speakers. Also replaced the factory speakers. But I guess I’m not sure how much you are wanting to do or if you are just wanting a quick fix.

 

I've read that to be the best single thing to start with in the non-JBL, though the non-JBL speakers (at least in the 2G) were laughably weak even for someone who listens to talk radio

 

Even my gen 3 was pretty atrocious (non-jbl). Listened to my coworkers system with the JBL package and it hardly sounded any better. Not worth the factory upgrade in my opinion. I was able to build a much better system quite a bit less than it would have cost me for, let’s be real, a sub par premium audio system.

 

You need the AGM hearing aid battery upgrade.

 

My 2020 has no volume at the rear speakers either. Its a Tacoma issue. Mine is non JBL. I installed new Kicker speakers in all 6 but still no volume from the rear. I'm guessing an outboard amp will solve the problem/

 

If I were ordering a new vehicle and it was an option I wouldn't get any audio system, only b/c I have stuff already. Not sure off my skull what the JBL cost is for our trucks, though I do agree if one wants to shop around and/or perhaps DIY your money goes much further

 

Agreed. The premium audio package comes along with a bunch of other premium upgrades I didn’t think were necessary. All in all the option was about another $5k.

My system on the other hand ran me about $2000-$2500 off the top of my skull. I did end up getting a custom enclosure for the subwoofers free which helped. Ended up paying someone to do the install as I got the truck in the fall and my garage door opening is not high enough to get the truck inside.

the non jbl speakers in these trucks are horrible. i've seen better implemented magnets and baskets in "$5-below" bluetooth speakers...

 

In the JBL system, isn't the amp located behind the rear seat next to a sub-woofer? If true, conceptually with the right custom wiring, one could upgrade the amp without re-wiring the truck.

Another thing comes to mind. If some claim the JBL system is weak, and some say more than adequate, maybe some of the amps are defective. For the bump in expense, if I had the JBL system, I'd ask the dealership to replace the amp.

Now, you can take the following comment for what it's worth... Most systems with rear speakers only try to "fill" from behind the listener. If you ever had a high end audio system with Dolby surround, the speakers in the rear are very low volume in that mode. The brain is very good at determining sound location... Put another way, are you expecting to be sonically placed in the middle of the sound source? That isn't what you and I would experience unless we were in the middle of the band or orchestra.

It's possible some owners have subjected themselves to high volume sound sources for many years, and have a challenge hearing things at low volume.

Just throwing this out there for discussion. One man's great listening environment may involve the rattling of metal that you and I can hear inside our cars from tens of feet of distance.

 

My JBL system is also widely varied in volume depending on the source, weird.
