I have a 96 Tacoma I bought for a back 40 beater. Rusty is an understatement! Anyway it died and I was certain is was a fuel pump issue…. Tried to get the pump assy out of the tank any the tank is rotten to say the least. I have a fuel cell I’d like to use but curious about a fuel pump. Stock pump being an in tank pump won’t work as it returns fuel out a tiny port near the filter. Any opinions on an in-line out of the tank pump would be appreciated.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Any electric pump that is rated at pressure and flow the same or above the stock pump will work. Check Summit Racing for pump selection .

Mount it as close as possible to the tank electric pumps push better then pull.

plumb in the stock filter if possible or use one to handle the pressure and flow.

use fuel injection hose and clamps if using any rubber hose.

    good luck

Any of the service manuals should have the numbers or search online.

If the rust is as bad as you say it is, I’d check the frame for rot and failure. These trucks #1 problem that’s notorious is frame rot.

I think this is a run till it breaks farm Truck

Most often the engine fails first . Funny when you try to break the frame they last forever.
