I've used mine for lot of towing, it does fine. My trailer has a 2500# load capacity, I'm pretty sure that I might have been over that a few times, the 4runner handles it like a champ. I will turn off the O.D. when going up a hill on an interstate, no use in getting a 270K mile transmission too hot. The "fun" starts when its time to slow down the heavy loads, I was always on the edge of brake fade with the stock brakes. The Tundra brake parts seem to handle the heat a little better. I've completely faded the brakes on the Taco and that uses the same basic components of the Tundra. If I keep the Taco, it will get the 5th gen 4runner brake parts.

This is all good stuff to hear. As far as the TBU goes, I haven't done it. I probably should have years ago just for the sake of a performance improvement but I don't think I would've really reaped the full benefits from it given that I don't tow anything.

Forgive me if we've already gone over this, but are you running an external transmission cooler? Do you run a ScanGauge or UltraGauge to monitor engine temps, trans temps, etc? If so, I'd love to hear what your numbers look like when you're towing and if there's any drastic difference when compared to normal vehicle operations.

Flagpole Knob!!!! Was this your first time there?! This was the first trail my rig ever went through and its a very special one to me. Been a handful of times ever since then. Did you get more pictures at the very top?

Truck looks great, by the way. Love the simplicity of it. Heck, I'd love to own one just like it myself.

Yes first time. Having some conversations with crazyfingers through pms I was a bit nervous. His last one was do you have a lift because I told him I only had street tires. But made it through and know what I need now. No other pictures was too focused on the task at hand. Was glad i went with ecpierced folks. Thanks again Chuck for making sure everything went well.

Glad you and your rig made it through. It's not terrible at all. It's a lot of fun and hopefully you enjoyed yourself. Doesn't require much lift at all either, as long as you stick to the simple routes. Did you camp overnight or do just a day trip?

Does anyone know if there is a southern maryland shop that does the ECGS bearing swap? From the looks of it, once I buy the unique tools, I could just pay a shop to do the work? And hopefully I would never have to do this again. Even so, I hate single purpose tools.

Anyway looking for a shop recommendation.

I was running 5th gen 4runner "snowflake" wheels with 245/75/17 tires, they fit well, no rubbing and didn't completely kill the power from the 2.7. They were 1"taller then the stock tires, so there's an instant 1/2" gain of ground clearance.

NO scan gauge or external oil cooler, although I have been wanting to add one. When I would go junkyard scrounging, I always looked for a Tundra/Sequoia to take home, I just never scored one that was in good condition.

The B&M 70268 is about $80 the last time I checked and definitely worth the investment and time. Keeps your transmission temps nice and cool during the warm weather. I've had mine since 2016 and I love it. Or you could do the bigger one, the 70264. Whichever one best suits your needs of course.

265/75/16 but I need to check with my friend again because he said he would "give" me 17" 4runner wheels.

Oh nice, that would be quite the freebie lol

If you decide you want 265/75/16’s, let me know. I have 265/75/16 General Grabbers on my truck that we could maybe make a deal on… I really want to go up to 255/85/16’s but they’re so expensive I’ve been holding off.
