Put the kids to work with the tonka truck picking up mockernuts. We have plenty of hickory now that needs to be split and I need to test out my Alaskan mill. Would love a bob cat to move everything around but a cant hook and some physical labor works. The lumberjack workout program gets you in shape!

 

What are mocker nuts?

 

Big nuts that squirrels liked throwing the husks at us whenever we walked under the tree. Found this online about using them in the smoker so looking forward to giving it a go.
“I have been using whole hickory nuts to smoke meats for over 30 years. A coworker brought me some in 1983 as I did not even know what hickory nuts looked like.

I used them and found the smoke flavor was sweeter than with wood chips. Ribs especially are blackened with smoke, not burned and most folks who have tried them like them without any bbq sauce.”

What are you using for throw rope?

 

Lawnmower is a Sarlo WX24SP with a 6.75 Briggs engine. With the blade mounted, you have to work with it for 15-30 minutes to get it started. Remove the blade and it will start easily on the second or third pull. Any idea what would cause this?

 

I would probably go with something different if I did it again but it gets the job done.

That's the kind I was going to recommend actually. You can get slingshot contraptions to shoot the weight quite a bit further if you need.

 

Back when I did do tree work I found that caulk line was better for me with the throw line and easier to clean up. It is still my preferred twine for general use.

 

I'm using an onion sack filled with 6 old spark plugs..

I was able to mow with the JD sst-18 over the weekend and was very pleased to get all the lawns mowed. Got some fresh ethanol free gas in her and a fresh oil filter. Added sea foam to the oil and will run it for the next mow and do a full oil change. I need a new seat or at least a seat cover. All and all, there are a few things about this engine that really annoy me, but I will keep it around for now.

1. the oil filter is in the most obnoxious place and cannot be removed without making a total mess.
2. the valve adjustment has no room for a wrench to fit on the jam nut. This one kicked my ass looking for a tool to use as its a 13mm jam nut, I think I found a solution and I will do one more valve adjustment check.
3. the heat from the exhaust is too much for the OEM plastic around the hood. Perhaps I am reassembled it wrong but melting plastic is bad...

 

Talked myself into going "all in" on this machine.

I bought a Stihl backpack sprayer last year, when I use it I’m constantly pumping it for pressure. Who knew they make battery powered backpack sprayers now
