Go aluminum for the trailer, more money but the 2.7 isn't really a powerhouse. I drive mine with a 5 speed in the floor for 150k with no issues. great motor just no balls.

If you look at the numbers the 2 7L 2TR-FE has 80 lbs less torque than the 3.5L v6 model that tows 6,500 lbs, the 2TR-FE is used in small buses that carry 17 passengers and in many other large vehicles..it will tow just fine.. in the USA the DOT limits it at 3,500 lbs but outside of the USA it tows 5,500 lbs..Same frame, transmission, suspension, rear end, brakes as the V6 model, that can tow 6,500 lbs..Think about it,do you really think 80lbs of torque makes a 3,000lb tow differents, it doesn't..it does make a 1,000lb tow differents..

It will tow just fine, the 4 cyl taco actually has good low end torque and great differential gearing out of the factory, 4.30 I believe. Make sure your truck has a trans cooler; if it came with the factory tow package it’s fine.

To tow safely without damaging your transmission:

    1. Tow with over drive OFF
    2. Don’t tow over 60mph
    3. If you’re going up hill and struggling, keep the rev range around 4500 rpm and don’t worry about speed.
    4. After demanding uphill runs pull off the road and let everything cool off for 15 mins. The transmissions and rear diffs on these trucks get hot with high altitude steep grades.

it's all in the gearing when it comes to towing. you could drive a bus with the 2TR-FE with the right gears. might not go very fast but it will pull it with the right gear ratio.

You’ll need a class 3 tow hitch and a transmission cooler.

I would never tow nor recommend putting a side by side on a tow dolly. You will murder the bearings. They are designed for offroad, mud and dirt kills them and they are not meant to got 70mph plus for hundreds of miles straight.

Honda Pioneer is a side by side. It is the very first post. Nobody should dolly a side by side. They are not designed for speeds that high that long.

2011 2.7 with the 5MT and stock 4.10 gearing. My tires are 265/70/16, which are wider but the same diameter as the stock 245/75/16 that were on the truck when I bought it. This was a base model, so I had to install my own receiver and wiring. I also installed a Redarc brake controller. I picked up this trailer from Carson here in Vegas; I opted to install my own brakes rather than pay for them from the factory. The only downside is that the trailer can physically carry 7,000 pounds, but the official GVW is only 2995. I do recommend a tandem axle, a single will carry the weight of your Pioneer, but if you have a tire failure, the tandem is easier to control, and you can get away without a spare in a pinch (happened to me, but now I have the spare).

For all of your towing setup needs, you can go to www.etrailer.com and enter your truck info. Of course, they have all the trailer components as well. In the case of my trailer, I rewired it since it wasn’t done well from the factory and I needed to upgrade from a 4 wire system to a 7 wire and add the backup battery. Right now, trailer prices are astronomically high, so a good used one may be a better option.

It can be done, but it hills will take some time. I actually drove this setup up to Oregon and back just a few weeks ago, and did have to drop to 2nd gear a couple of times, but was able to hold 3rd and 4th most of the time.
