Same at a Toyota plant, in general: body welding very automated; painting semi-automated; assembly shop low automation.

Initial quality (fit/loose parts/scratches/no function parts, etc) can be dependent on where a vehicle is made, but long term it's about supplier part quality. Very few major failure items come from plant mistakes. Low fluid fills, significantly low torque on a functional part like chassis or engine, and a pinched/cut wire harness are a few that could cause you a significant problem. Since the inspection processes are dictated globally by Toyota, initial quality should be very similar.

My point is, if most of the parts are still being supplied by the same makers as when the trucks were built in San Antonio, should be minimal/no difference in long term quality. If the part suppliers were also moved and started with new workers,...

The only true issue right now goes for all manufacturers, and it’s parts sourcing. Everyone is scrambling to get parts so they can keep building and are getting them from new sources etc. It’s causing QC issues and I’d not buy any vehicle built after early 2020. My .02.

I have one of the early trucks out of Mexico. I've posted on here before about it. I had it towed to the dealer twice for burning oil, new motor for scoring in one of the cylinders, the rear locker works intermittently, and when I took it to the dealer it was low on diff fluid. I have more squeaks and rattles than every old VW and Chevy I've owned combined.

    I am not impressed

The engines aren't made in Mexico.

My 2010 Tacoma is from the Baja California factory, outside of Tijuana. Built in 2009, it has been outstanding. The only issues are with parts that have nothing to do with Mexico, as far as I can tell... Fan blower occasionally only wants to work at high speed, compartment button (between seats) falls off, front hub bearings fail, and rear drum brake fail. Not bad for a 13-year-old 4x4 with 130,000+ miles, many off-road in Baja.

I did not know that. I figured it was issues with starting up a new factory. Any idea where the engines are from?

Sup guys sorry to change topic, for a quick sec. I came back to this post to reply to a long story post that requested an answer from me but my post is gone to include the post by the one who was asking for questions. Is it normal for the mods to delete posts?

There are two factories in Mexico, one is fairly recent.

My 2020 is built in Mexico… two years trouble free. I would hope that Toyota is paying the workers a fair salary with good benefits. I want Mexico to have good paying jobs so crossing into this country illegally isn’t the only option to get out of poverty.

Most come from Alabama. However, TMMK's powertrain plant is supplementing them some as Alabama recently picked up the 3.4 TT Tundra mill

The Tacoma parts supply chain is unchanged. The majority of it is in the southern U.S. and some in Mexico

Same here worked for the UAW back when just out of tech school. Got caught sweeping up my work area, and emptying my trash can. I was reported to the union steward which did not go over well. At any rate i was glad to find a job that allowed me to have more flexibility, and advance. Unions were needed 100 years ago, but their time has come.

Absolutely nothing, except by doing so i'm taking away the sweepers job. Their union also. Happen similar a 2nd time when i took over for the tool crib guy as he went to take a crap but didn't return for over an hr....Someone reported i wasn't suppose to be in there. Got in trouble from my dept. foreman, and the union steward. After explaining it, i was told to let the assistant foreman know if it happened again. That was it. After 7 years i had enough of that bs.
