    Hello,
I have Tacoma 2002 pre runner 2.7 lit that the door lock get open/close by key only. But Once i insert key it does not turn clockwise or Anti Clockwise, and Locking Knob does not lift! I need to get in from passenger side then open the door by lifting Locking Knob by hand.

I would like to ask how to fix or if i need to buy any part before opening the cover for inspections...

    Thanks

Does your key work in all the other key cylinders on the truck without any binding?

So you only have a couple of choices. There are two ways to cut a key, either a trace cut (Where they use your key to make another by tracing it) or a code cut (Where they take a 5 digit number and use that number to cut the key). In your situation, I recommend a code cut key. But if you don’t have that you can sometimes go to the dealer and they can use the Toyota database to find it. (Be aware that they purge this information after so many years. It may no longer exist) If you can’t code cut it, try spraying some silicone spray into the lock cylinder. (Do NOT use graphite!) If that also doesn’t work, you will probably have to replace the lock cylinder.

    Thanks for your reply!
I tried with two other spare key that i have at home! It did not work! It seems that's lock cylinder or other mechanic parts that attach to it need to be replaced.
will try silicone spray into the lock cylinder first! before any other steps...

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Was the key working now it just quit??

    New to you vehicle ?

Quite possible something has failed in the door linkage keeping the key from turning.

There is no way to know what you might need without pulling things apart .

So you have a couple of things happening here, lock cylinder won't turn and door won't open from outside.

I would start by taking inside panel off and look around re the handle. Figure that one out and you at least can open the door. My surmise re the key part with what you've said so far is a new lock cylinder but that isn't a tough job on these trucks.

Thanks all of you for your reply!

I opened the panel and inspected all parts! It was only lock Cylinder! :)
Now, i was wondering if i need to re key if i get new lock!
The new set is so expensive from Toyota and not sure if it comes with one key that open all...

Have you tried penetrating spray to free the lock cylinder up.

Since I have been trading welding for locksmith work for 30 years I have no idea what rebuilding your lock cylinder or rekeying a new lock cylinder would cost you at your local lock smith.

Perhaps a part out with all the lock cylinders with keys.

Having one key for the left door and another key for the ignition is a pain but you can live with the fact.

Yes you will but any locksmith can rekey it for around $20, just bring it to them before you install it. Went through the same thing with my wife's old Rav4

Bring them the new cylinder and one of your keys you mentioned, they'll set it right up. Drop it in, done and done.
