I could reuse the 7 joists that seem to be ok but at that point, why cheap out and not replace them all. Everything else is going to be new wood, so I might as well do them all while I have it torn that far apart. I can cut up the good "used" ones and use them for blocking.

    56. Seems life was charmed until recently. I hate to do it, but here’s the dump. Not looking for pity, but I figure others can relate.

This time it was my wife. Went camping for Labor Day weekend. Thought we’d go for a little bicycle ride. Easy. Short. Nothing serious. She’s zipping down a hill. Gets a high-speed wobble that turns into a tank slapper. She’s in front. I’m watching this thinking, tank slapper on a bicycle? Bars cross fully and pitch her over. No helmet. Face first. I’m instantly thinking, no, no, no and coming to a stop. Drop my bike and turn to her. She’s face down and not moving. There is a two-foot stream of blood on the road coming from her head. Oh, God, no, no, no. I roll her over and her eyes are open but twitching around, focused on nothing. I cradle her and bring my face to her. I call her name over and over demanding she come to me. We are in the middle of the road. I pull her to the shoulder, cradle her again in my arms, and call her name. She remains disoriented and unresponsive. Blood is everywhere. We are in a remote location with no cell service. I can’t help her like this. I have to leave her. Camp is a mile away. Other campers are there. My truck is there. I wrap a shirt around her head and ride. Hard. I make camp, get in my truck, and drive to other campsites pleading for help. I find a nurse. Help is on the way. We get back. She is sitting up, disoriented, with no idea where she is or what happened. The nurse goes to work. I drive away looking for cell signal. Find a guy who’s cell calls out. 911 reached. Find a second nurse. ER experienced. More help on the way. Ambulance one hour later. They request helicopter to trauma center 175 miles away. They leave. I go back to camp covered in her blood with no knowledge of what’s happening now. Three hours to pack it all up. Midnight, with a four-hour drive ahead. Get there. She’s stable, concussed, blood on brain, and eight staples in her scalp. No fractures, head or otherwise. Lots of bruises and scrapes. Home now. Recovering.

leaving her on the road was the most terrible experience of my life. The last few years it’s been me: pulmonary embolism, broken hip, heart attack, and career difficulties. WTF? Prior to that, everything had been easy street. Took it for granted. Not now.

    Wear your helmet, kids.

I know. Long post. Not for you. For me. Off my chest. Good night, and good luck, everyone.

Oh wow..... Take care and hopefully she recovers fully. Wife has worked for years in physio rehab so she is overly protective with our kids and brain injuries. She's seen the worst of the worst.

Yeah - water lines broken. So camp has been running with 4 vault toilets only and no flush toilets. Portas were brought in to help with the summer traffic.
And notice the camper van on the right? An entire empty campground and they have to have the one site that is in my direct line of sight.

Ideas on an effective way to get rid of my new camp neighbors? They've got 32 other sites to choose from.
