    Hello,

We are shopping for a truck and really hope we can make the Tacoma work for my family. We are a family of 3 plus a medium to large dog (60 lb hunting breed). I need a way to keep both kid and dog in the back seat of the double cab. Putting the dog in a cap isn't an option. The problem is the 60/40 split of the back seat on the Tacoma is reversed from what would be ideal. I would like the kid in the rear passenger side and the dog on the driver side. Ideally, the 60 percent would be on the driver side and the dog would have plenty of room, but the fact that it's set up opposite is giving me pause. Is anybody running a 40 percent seat delete with a large dog, and is it enough? I'd love to see pictures of your setup. Thanks

My 60lb entlebucher fits fine in the access cab back seat. It’ll be a little tight, but I think you’ll be fine. Also, why does the kid have to be on the 60 side???

Kid needs to be on the curb side so that he never jumps out into traffic (or more likely, swings the door open into an oncoming car). Also, I need to handle the dog almost immediately after getting out because otherwise he'll make for the nearest open door, so he should be right behind the driver seat.

There are no child lock door features on the 4 door Tacoma?

We have an 80lbs ridgeback that is buckled in behind the driver and an 11 year old that sits passenger side. We have no problems but the dog sits on the seat not on a platform.

I'm sure there are, but I don't want to have to open the door for him every single time. He can do that himself, (he's 5) and can exit safely on the curb side of the vehicle...

I have a dog cover for my leather interior and the dogs are buckled to the head rests. The cover is everything proof and I’m willing to bet it could be folded up to meet your needs. But I definitely suggest a tether for the dog and that will help with the bolting out the door issue.

How old is the kid and how big is he? They tend to grow and get larger.

Train the kid not to open door in traffic.
    Train dog to stay.
It's not the vehicle that's the problem here.

No amount of mean spirited comments from some message board resident will ever convince me it’s a good idea to seat and unload my kid traffic side. I’m guessing you don’t have a kid

How often do you parallel park that one side is considered more dangerous than the other? Honest question with no ill will meant. Or are you also implying being trail side where you’re off of the trail but still next to it? Curiosity has me.

I had an 83lb pit mix (RIP) that would sit and lay down on the driver's side if I had a bunch of gear on the passenger side of my DCSB. Plenty of room. ALso had him buckled in with a seat belt attachment. Didnt' want an 83 lb projectile flying around the cab in an accident. It also prevented the "bolting" issue.

Ditto --> 60# Catahoula mix, does just fine in back of Access cab... Plenty of room to spare... Double cab back seat is almost overkill for the critter

No, I have TWO kids. One on either side of the vehicle. I changed my habits and unloaded where both could get out safely. My dog stays in the truck until I tell it to get out.
My kids are now 30 and 26 yo respectively.
This is my 5th dog and every one stayed until I say otherwise.
Sometimes the problem cannot be fixed with a purchase.

I have a double cab and my 80lb lab likes his Gunner Kennel more than the backseat. I like it because I don't have to worry about him or the kids. We can go from the lake or cow fields and my truck doesn't get destroyed.

Can the dog and kid fit back there, sure.
