Replaced IAC valve today, high idle problem solved

The truck has had intermittent high idle for a while. Actually, the truck has been down for months for head/gasket replacement. Today I started it up and once again the high idle was an issue. A little over 2k rpms.

I cleaned the disgusting IAC valve and still the problem persisted. I ended up testing the valve with some test leads hooked up to the battery. There was zero action, bad valve. I went to O'Reilly's and picked up a *non* OEM IAC valve just because I was in a hurry but paid basically the same price as OEM. I tested the valve before installation and it worked as expected. Damn, this is an easy part to replace. Fyi, if you suffer from high idle it's probably an easy fix. Clean it and then try using test leads to check the operation. Replace if it doesn't work.

That is all, just wanted to share my success.

Well, sometimes a guy gets sick of dragging a project out week after week, month after month for the next part that's needed. I use pretty much all OEM parts too but this one was available today. Oh well.

 

I can relate sometimes one needs to get up and running.

Rather then wait for dealer parts to arrive. Mean while move on to something else in my cases months turn into years.

 

Can anybody define what the High Idle range is for the audience? Or what Normal Idle is? TIA

 

Normal idle (in neutral, once up to operating temp, without AC, and all ecu monitors have been run) should be around 750 rpm. All sorts of things can cause the idle to be higher which is why I listed off at least a few of them.
