Within the last few days I noticed the check engine and trac off light go on. The truck has seemed to be low on power and possibly using more fuel. Figuring the truck may be running rich I decided to disassemble the air ducting to find about 10 apples inside from rodents (I park in an apple orchard under a car tent). I also plugged the diagnostic computer in to find error code P0333 sensor 2 code. I erased the code figuring the lights would go out and problem would be fixed after removing the apples. I took the truck for a short drive and noticed it ran better than before but the same check engine and trac off lights came on. After doing my share of research I've become pretty confident that the wiring harness is likely chewed by rodents.

I'm debating whether I should hang on for a bit to see if the lights go out or should I go ahead and order necessary parts for the job? Seems like a pretty lengthy job. Not looking forward to it.

I’d shine a light down in the area of the sensors and wiring harness and take a look.
The chances the light stays off and there isn’t a problem, isn’t good.
Those wires are known for being a food source for rodents.
There must be something that smells good with those particular wires over the others.

Went for a drive on the freeway and noticed it won’t shift into overdrive. Now I’m almost certain I need to start ordering the parts. Before I order the parts I would like to confirm what I need. I found this list from another thread and I’m wondering if it’s correct?

    You'll need these:

    82219-0C010 - wire sensor
    17176-0P010 - Air Surge Gasket
You may reuse the old one if careful...
17177-AD010 - Intake Manifold Gasket You may reuse the old one if careful...
17178-AD010 - Intake Manifold Gasket You may reuse the old one if careful...
16341-AD010 - Water out Gasket (two of these) You may reuse the old one if careful...
    96761-35031 - O-ring (two of these)
00272-SLLC2 - Super Long Life Coolant Buy 3 gallons. You can always take the unopened one back

I don’t like working on stuff the 1st time. Let alone a 2nd.
That list looks correct, and I’d recommend getting all new gaskets.

I’m hoping the list includes all gaskets and everything else. Just don’t wanna half a project halfway and realize I need to order more.

Just ordered my parts from toyota.com for pickup at my local dealer. Anyone have experience with this? hoping parts are available in the 24-72 hours like it says on the site.

Also wondering if its ok to drive the truck in the meantime? It seems to run fine but doesn't ship into overdrive and cruise control does not work.

Probably won’t hurt it. But it’s going to be way down on power and fuel mileage is going to suffer big.

I would not run it at higher speeds.
For instance 80mph on the interstate because you’ll be turning a lot of RPM.

Ok that's what I thought. Won't be trying to go 80mph these days with CA summer traffic.

Bone stock. Well, I guess I did disable the seat belt chime, and I added a nice MOLLE panel to the back of the passenger seat
While you're at it hit up the Honda dealer (eBay, Amazon, whatever) and get some of the Honda anti rodent electrical tape

    Honda P.N. 4019-2317

    It's impregnated with capsaicin.

P.S. the rodents like the wires because the insulation is soy based.

Got almost all the parts on hand except waiting for one more of the water inlet gaskets which I will have by Friday. Also gonna pickup some pink coolant. Should be ready to tackle the job on the weekend. Please let me know if there’s something I’m missing or recommend I have for the jobs. Any tips or pointers are appreciated. Thanks

Finally finished the job after working on it all weekend. Probably took 4 hours alone to dismantle the old harness and install the new one. Was able to do the job without removing the hard coolant pipes. Had to used long skinny skrewdrivers to detach clips on the old harness and fish the new one into place. It helped to remove the passenger side wheel and piece of rubber under wheel well in order to gain access. Now I get to return the two traingular shaped gaskets and rubber orings to the dealer since I didn't need them. I didn't remove any of the coolant assembly. Hopefully this thread becomes useful to someone in the future.

Seems to be a common problem. Not a good idea they use soy based wires especially in hard to reach areas...

Hello. Did your truck get fixed from this code? I see by your list you used a 82219-0C010 harness. I'm wondering if you verified the part number of the harness that was chewed up? A 82219-0C030 is the right part number for your year truck. So wondering if your 0C010 worked?

Suggest you check with your insurance company to see if it is covered. I have had a few co-workers that had this rodent damage and their insurance company covered it with no problems.

Yes, this work was completed 2 years ago and the truck still runs as good as usual. I used the toyota site to order parts so they must’ve been correct. Maybe the part number changed since then? Or you’re looking at a wiring harness for a 4cyl?
