You act like people get black listed all the time lol. It happens, but from toyota its pretty rare as far as I can tell (I've never heard of it), we're not talking ferrari's. I think a dealer would be able to escalate, especially if OP didn't make a profit. Seems like a silly flag in their system they could reverse or make an exception.

They think you're a flipper, just call and explain and you'll be fine.

I had something similar almost happen to me. Within the last 2 years I bought and sold 2 4runners (first one was white and the paint started to bubble right away, 2nd one was supposed to be a keeper but a girl texting hit me) anyway when I went to get my 3rd one (about a year since my last one) toyota financial actually called my dealer and said they suspected I was running a scam, long story short the girl at toyota financial said it was her first week so she was unsure if she could give me the loan (have excellent credit) after the dealer told her I buy a lot as do a lot of customers she agreed to let toyota give me the loan.

Sony does police their lines so they can't be purchased sideways. If any sony dealer gets caught selling to a non-authorized dealer they will yank the dealers contract with them.

I think the key here is financing through TFS. Have you tried other financing methods, i.e. banks, credit unions?

How does one make sure not to get on this list? I was going to do something similar to OP but I won’t now. How long do I need to keep my truck?

Ok- so as someone who’s worked for Toyota, selling cars, yes, this is a thing.
We have to be looking out for “exporters” all the time. The dealers contract states that we cannot sell ANY new car to them. So, in their system, if you sell a new vehicle, or transfer ownership, right after purchasing it, you are flagged as a high risk person. In some cases, like with pros, Toyota does put you on a blacklist. This can be resolved, but it takes a while.

The cars/trucks I can remember being added to this watch list were
    • 4Runners
    • Tundras
    • Tacomas
    • Sequoias
    • Supra s
    • 2022 + sienna
    • Rav4 prime
    • GR86
    • 3.0 supra.
It sucks, but I understand why they do it.

Usually 3-4 months does the trick. They see immediate title changes as the sign of an exporter/flipper and they flag it in their system. We would have people come in, run their license, and they’ve bought and registered 30+ new cars that year, and sold an equal amount. It’s crazy. Unfortunate world we live in.

Sometimes, if it’s a high income person, 1 mil plus a year, they make exceptions, because in that case, you might legitimately just really like Toyota/Lexus products lol.

I also don't believe Toyota has the time to blacklist people who buys too many TRD PRO. Toyota has more expensive truck and cars in the line. TRD PRO is not that rare.
Ferrari does this shit not Toyota, they sell trucks to Talibans...

So if you had waited to trade in the original AT - PRO you would have been A-O-K? Seems odd, but companies can make their own policies.

When we were looking at cars for my wife in 2021, the Highlander Hybrid was on the list of cars to look at. The dealer was very snooty and said they are putting $5,000 market adjustment on all new cars, I laughed my way out the door. If I am willing to spend $40k on a car and you are snooty about stealing money from me you can keep your car. I am sure it sold but it wasn't to me; TOYOTA is pretty full of themselves in the past few years and I think (and hope) they fall on their face and learn some lessons.

Small point - there's Toyota the manufacturer and Toyota the dealership. I don't fault the MFG as much as I would the dealership or dealer owner group. Saw it a lot with Harley and the dealer has to be VERY egregious for the MFG to pull the dealership. Lots of legal issues to solve before that trigger is pulled.

Yeah but their fleet vehicles. They’re not trying to flip them for a profit.

This is wacky. If you buy a vehicle or anything for that matter you should be allowed to do whatever you want with it. You are now the owner, the manufacturer has no say anymore. These auto manufacturers should be concerned with their dealers adding huge markups to vehicles, not with what the customers do with their purchases. They are a bunch of scumbags always screwing over their customers.

If it has not been mentioned already, point out the fact it was sold back to Toyota. Not a private sale. The move was to put you into another Tacoma, not to profit from.

This has to be some bs about buying too many toyota's to soon. Toyota has been sending me their brochere's to go to their nearest dealer, and buy their latest tacoma's, or tundra a few months after i bought a new tacoma. I just got another ad last week in the mail. Toyota even lists the dealer, and phone# to call.

It's like the marketing and the legal department aren't entirely separate, no?

Sounds like a case of the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

I love how @MaverickT883 literally says it’s a thing and he has first hand experience with blacklisting and then people keep going on saying it’s bs and they doubt they do blacklist people.
Just because it hasn’t happened to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
