I had one in my second gen. Double check the design of the lid and your center console to know the downsides if there are like on the 2nd gen. With mine, if you don’t actively lock the console safe lid, the springs out it up against the inside of the OEM console lid and blocks the release latch from letting you back in. This happened to the previous owner of the truck and told me so I never had that happen to me.
    You also lose significant volume.

My reply was focused on your LiDAR example regarding $15k increase in safety features, and inability for people to afford new vehicles as a result.

I'm happy to do some self educating if you provide some info on it. Same for the 60% increase in accidents due to increase in standard safety features.

Imagine how cheap cars would be without airbags and crumple zones

Reason I went with the 96 Hilux Surf vs pre-95 is the safety rating. The 2nd gen has less than a 1 star rating.. woof

This happened to me when someone broke into my truck. They didn't latch the vault lid after searching though it and closed the center console over it. Very inconsiderate of them and it took me an hour with a coat hanger to get the lid back open. Also the vault was empty so they got nothing out of it. Now that I know how to reopen the lid though it probably wouldn't be such a pain if it happened again.

I got mine through Costco. Not sure if it's a different brand or if they've just updated the combo knob design. Very happy with it and feel like it doesn't really cut down the volume that much.

I used to think it didn't matter so much, just be a good driver right?...In the case that you are and are never at fault in an accident that still doesn't stop someone else from fucking you up :(

Ain't that the truth, you can be a great driver but the amount of distracted drivers on the road these days one small move could wreck your shit. Last year I was almost side-swiped on 225, lady still got in my lane even after she realized she was about to hit me, blessing in disguise though cause she smacked a HUGE ladder in that lane lol

Ugh, glad that it was nothing more than a close call. 225 and 270 make me think of Mad Max Fury Road every time

a girl I grew up with died after a distracted driver hit her head on outside of parker. Not saying a lane alert or even lane assist would have prevented the other driver from crossing over... But maybe?

Safety features (or the absence of) doesn't really seem to matter, shit drivers are shit drivers
