I know oem cv axles for the ADD have blue shafts and the Manual Hubs have green shafts. Other than the color of the shaft, is there any difference between them and a 3rd gen 4runner cv axle? I know online they all have the same part numbers if you're buying a napa replacement.

Its the other way around, blue shafts for manual hubs and green for ADD.

3rd gen 4runner axles have slightly tapered shafts (thinner shafts overall) but otherwise they are interchangeable with 1st gen Tacomas.

    (referring to OEM axles)

Is there a reason that they are different colors? I have a lead on an extra set of ADD cv axles and want to make sure they fit my manual hubs.

They are different colors to help differentiate between them more easily. ADD axles won't work with manual hubs. Manual hubs don't use an axle nut like ADD ones do, hence why ADD axles have threaded ends.

3rd gen 4runners never came with manual hubs so you can't use their axles. Only ADD Tacomas and 3rd gen 4runners are interchangeable. You need manual hub axles specifically.

I'm not sure if Napa still sells manual hub axles for these trucks, found a couple old threads with part numbers but they are no longer listed on Napa's website. Maybe the part number changed.

I know Toyota sells (maybe not anymore) remanufactured manual hub axles through dealerships, they are much cheaper than brand new ones.

Just make sure whoever you're buying them from knows you need manual hub ones, they are not as common as ADD

@Wulf you got any leads on where to buy aftermarket manual hub axles?

    LCE sells them https://www.lceperformance.com/Front-CV-Axle-For-1995-2004-Tacoma-4WD-IFS-Manual-p/1091502.htm

Advance Auto/Carquest still has them as well, you will probably have to order but shipping to local store is always free

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
ADD have more splines and are larger diameter outer joints. Manual have a smaller outer joint but the shafts and inner joints are the same. I have around 6 sets of manual hub CVs available for sale as is or complete rebuild.

I’ve found manual hub cv's in stock at one of our oreillys when I needed them.
