I changed the oil but forgot to change the crush washer. Now I have a very tiny leak.

I'm going to just undo the bolt, replace the crush washer and put it back on as fast as I can. And catch the oil in a fresh container.

Any tricks I should know to minimize oil loss?

Best way to do it is have another person use their finger to plug the hole when you remove the drain plug. Then put the crush washer on and put the plug back on. If you're good, you won't lose any oil.

Did you torque the bolt to spec? I’m an advocate of changing the washer with every oil change, but tons of folks report reusing those washers multiple times with no ill effects.

I don't use a torque wrench but I'm pretty good at guestimating. I think because the bolt is somewhat corrored due to salt, the seal isn't as good as it could be.

There was a similar thread just like this, except the washer was new. Owner hadn’t torqued to spec. That was recommended and he found that the bolt was significantly under tightened. That’s more likely with a new washer but, easy thing to try and highly recommended.

Not that it solves your issue, but I have had good luck flipping the crush washer so the "old" crushed side is on the bolt side. The old flat side gets crimped into the gap and seals well.

I have only done that twice, but it hasn't leaked either time.

You don't want to use them more than twice that way, of course.

I use a similar technique with my boxers. After two days of wearing, I flip it inside out and wear them another three days. Save me from doing too much laundry.

Oh......You dont have to replace a crush washer everytime.....
you just got to develop a feel for it......
dont over crush it to start with.......dont reuse old old stuff....it just splits...like old lumber......

And hell its hotter than hell here in the south.....
this time of the year.......I pretty much live in my boxers.......

Same. I wish the oil filter was located in a different spot like the 2nd gens. It make a mess and with heavy aftermarket skids, it gets annoying.

Keep an eye on your oil level !

I changed a few over the years that the washer was missing .

only in one case did all the oil leaked out over night
