So there is a trade-off going 5.29. Without getting tuned, the truck will not exceed 79mph due to a speed governor, according to my reading way back in this thread.

The limiter was 83 on my speedo so probably more like 87 by GPS w/ 33's. And you don't exactly need a tune, you just need someone to reset the global speed limiter to 300kph or whatever

I don't really speed with 33's anyway. I'd get shaken to death by my K02's no doubt. I feel better now, knowing the facts.

Any good installers in Denver/Boulder area? I reached out the the fat kid to no avail. I got an offer that seemed reasonable so far but it’s a far drive.

also guys doing cryo, it seems none of the shops will warranty it given I’d have to supply the gears myself and charge more for labor. You all just install yourself or with other tw members or is there a shop that’ll do that?

    Thanks!

I’ll ask tomorrow when I’m there but I’m guessing it’ll cost more than I’m willing to pay. They seem to charge above average rates from what I see though they do good work.

Hey bro. What do your RPM's look like when trying to hold 70-75 mph up slight inclines? I am running 35's now and my rpm's shoot up to around 3600 on slight inclines. Like driving the highway and approaching an overpass, the trans will shift into 4th and run around 3600 rpm until I am completely clear of the incline. Trying to figure out the (Best size tire) to run with the 5.29's. Don't really want to go below a 33, but don't want to buy 33's if they are not better driving than the 35's. Thanks for your input.

Speaking of 5.29’s is there anyone in the SLO, Ca area that could help me get my Rough Country Speedo adjuster working? Can’t get the files to load or run on my computer.

Is this on flat ground? Trying to see what it does with 5.29 on 33’s on a slight incline trying to hold 75mph.

    All the things!
The incline will have zero affect on RPM's. The RPM's will only change with gear selection and speed.

75 MPH will be the same RPM in 6th gear, regardless of the terrain.

If you're seeing excessive RPM's, that means your truck has downshifted to maintain that speed. This is likely due to weight, wind resistance (either bulky truck or head winds), and/or tire size.

Just ran a pretty good incline while maintaining 75mph, and was at 3 grand start of the hill and 4 grand by the end in 6th gear. (3/4 of mile long hill) Shifted to 5th 3 times to get up a few places and rpm was 4 ½ grand at those points in 5th.

I understand. That is basically what I am asking. If trying to hold 75mph, and I hit a slight incline, the truck will run at 3600k. I’m trying to figure out what guys with 33’s and 5.29’s run into in a similar situation.

And you are running 33’s with 5.29? Thanks for the input.

Hey dunno if this helps... I am running 33s on 5.29 Nitro gears with OTT 7.0. I also have a scan guage II so I can see which gear I am in along with the RPMs. When I am running 75ish in 6th, I am about 2400 I believe. If I reach an incline and it shifts down to 5th, I believe it is at 2500-2600ish. I dont really recall, but it does not get above 3000, unless maybe I am in 4th (which I have not had to use while cruising). Let me know if you have more questions.

Spot on I'm running the same setup and see the same rpm's at those speeds/incline.

Edit: 5th gear at 75 is closer to 2800 rpm

Thanks guys. After talking with everyone, it really doesn’t sound like I would get much better after switching to 33’s? When I am @75, my rpm is about 2200k. The inclines are what puts me to around 35-3600. I imagine it is dropping to 4th to do this. Kinda stuck. I really don’t want to purchase a new set of 33’s and be at best 3400 or so. This may be the result of the added weight I’m running. I’m figuring around 700lbs. I haven’t driven the truck stock for almost 3 years and only drove it for like 3 weeks before I did the lift and tires. Really don’t remember how it acted. Thanks again for everyone’s help!

I'll just add some insight as I've been on 529's and 34's for a few months now.

Hands down one of the best things I've done. Top 3 would be 1. Tune. 2 Big brakes (Powerbrake). 3 Gears.

To be honest if I ever built a mild Tacoma for a daily driver it would get 32" tires and 4.88's. I think that would be a good combo.

Truck still downshifts on the highway but way less than before, nothing is going to fix some of the root of the problem which isn't enough HP/TQ. Truck seems happier all around, and honestly feels "normal." 4 Low is impressive and let's me walk up most things.
