It's not the carpet, it's the open cell foam that's in the bottom corner that catches fire.

Yassss, asking for anything in particular or just in general?

Use the wheels/tires you plan on running for a long time, the offset/wheel width can change the angles and contact points at full lock.

Take the struts out and move your alignment forward and back as much as possible when checking clearances. Don't forget that the bump itself can compress a little bit so even at full bump it may go further into the fender if you're bombing down a trail or dropping a ledge (i forgot this :bananadead:)

You can probably get away with grinding the front lip of the body mount off without having to actually cut into it.

As far as cutting goes, I took a piece of 1x2 and made a scribe so both front outer fenders got marked/cut the same amount.

Cutting the inner fender/firewall sucks because of the factory undercoating, buy good cutting discs but not great ones. Id start cutting at the bottom and seeing where the tire line is, then cutting vertically to accommodate it.

I tubbed close enough to the clutch pedal that I can't wear some boots and it still rubs on the outside lol

I set my 99 on fire welding the fender apron and other random holes back together. Good times.

What gauge of steel did you buy and how much do you think I should get? I'll probably unscrew the bumps and remove my fenders entirely since I have fiberglass to put on. Being able to just grind the body mount is good to know. I'll adjust my SPCs forward and back as much as possible when I cut it up.

Fenders off is the way to go. Instead of fiddling with the alignment, just use the tire for clearance, then take a little extra. You'll want a new washer bottle and I would remove the airbox before you start hitting the fender with your purse on the bottom side.

I think I used 16 gauge, it was close to the factory thickness. I'll go measure at lunch and ballpark how much I used, I don't remember if a 2x4ft sheet was all I bought or not

Also, I used 3M seam sealer inside and out and it has never leaked. I coated it with Rust-Oleum undercoat and it came out looking sneaky enough that most people don't notice it's tubbed unless they're familiar with 1st gens

Oh yeah I had to take the fender intake tube off. i almost think I might need to close up the intake inlet and do the deck plate mod to keep the airbox from filling with sand.

Our low was 85˚ last night :luvya:

although there's a hurricane down by Mexico right now and we're starting to get the tail of it up here...little bit of rain this AM and more predicted for tomorrow and Saturday. Also cooling off quite a bit finally. Hope it stays that way but Sept is usually the 'heat wave' month for us.

it's kind of weird to see how much it's been in the news all over considering how it's normally like this every year. I think the drought combined with growing fire risk is what makes it a bigger deal.
