    Hey everyone,

    Have a 2002 Tacoma 2.7 PreRunner.

Just bought it not too long ago and posted thread about it before but need help again.

Truck originally wouldn’t start until about 2-3 cranks after refueling. Now it’s doing it randomly. Still especially after refueling. Sometimes it seems like the engine is going to die after starting it then jumps back to life again. It shakes and rough starts and seems like it’s taking a while for engine to fire up even after it’s started if that makes sense.

Took it to mechanic twice, he couldn’t get it to repeat so I’m done paying for diagnoses.

I’ve changed purge valve, new fuel pump, new fuel filter…. I’m at a loss. Please help.

How do you run a line to bypass the fuel filter when both ends are banjo? And what brake line are you referring to? There no plastic nipple...

I'm trying to logically understand what you're telling OP to do. Both fuel line ends are banjo type. How is an extremely small brake line going to prevent leak under pressure. Probably will cause a fire hazard.

But...could he just replace his filter instead of bypassing it? It does an important job right?

Sounds more like you need to do a smoke test on the canister and associated systems.

Given that the pump and filter have been changed, it's unlikely fuel supply related unless there is an issue with the FPR, fuel rail, or injectors. But I don't think bypassing the filter will provide much help... I'd focus more on the canister and systems which would be effected by fuel vapors.

What brand parts did you use for the pump and filter?

Yes, replacing it will be more logic with less work. But I still don't understand your logic behind using a brake line to tee all the lines together? How's that even possible?

Yes it does. But I'm trying to understand his logic. Make no sense.

The point is to bypass the filter- whatever parts you can cobble together to make that work are fine. Don't overthink the implementation.

If I had to do something like that, I would slide the compression fittings away from the connections, and slip a length of fuel hose over the ends with some hose clamps.

Thanks to @turbodb here is a visual:

I think what @Taco critter was suggesting was to bridge that gap with some female compression fittings and hard brake or fuel line.

It's just a temp thing to eliminate the filter being an issue- don't over think it.

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate everyone else’s help too.

Previous owner had the same issue before he sold it to me. Fuel pump idk what brand, fuel filter OEM Toyota.

Should I go ahead and replace canister too?

You may want to see if you can even still source the canisters. And given the price I remember them being, you want to take the proper steps to diagnose the issue- otherwise, it's going to be an expensive parts cannon.
