117F yesterday in Tehama county. Drove around town w/ac blasting. Only thing i noticed was the suspension/tires felt a little “spongy.” Water temp. Reached 196. Truck ran fine, but i probably wouldn’t tow anything on days like this. 2014 OR well maintained. It’s hotter than the hinges on the gates into hell in northern ca. right now. Always looking for the east side of buildings to park.

I typically notice the trans temps getting higher than I'd like before the engine coolant does. That being said, I've driven my Tacoma through steep grades in 105+ deg weather in the Nevada desert with 1000+ lbs in the truck and the AC blasting the whole time and it was never an issue. Trans temps got a little high, but nowhere near anything I would consider risky or worrisome. Although I have flushed the trans and added an aftermarket cooler since then to keep temps down.

Also drove my POS '98 Audi through the Arizona desert where it reached over 110 deg not too long ago. AC blasting, tunes up, and no issues.

As long as your cooling system is in good working order you should be fine, just keep an eye on your temps. If you don't have a way to monitor trans temp, just make sure the torque converter stays locked while you're driving.

I don't recall it ever being this hot when we lived on base in the late 1990s!

It's partially buried, so it would be very easy to keep cool. Also, note the location of the furnace; I can't imagine it being particularly easy to run ductwork for a central HVAC system with all the sloped ceilings, so I'd do a gas or oil boiler, and Mitsubishi Mr. Slim ductless mini-split heat pumps for A/C and backup heat.

My view of houses is more pragmatic than style driven.

If I was building my forever home it would have the simplest and steepest roof line possible.

The #1 problem with home ownership is water intrusion, look at all the transitions and areas where the roof meets a wall in that plan, 15 years down the road those start becoming expensive to repair problems.

EDIT: And the garage isn't nearly big enough.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
That's a no for me. I don't like how the bedroom opens right into the family room.

Running HVAC wouldn't be an issue at all. I've been on plenty of roofs that are steep and way more cut up, 70+ facets. With that one being 6 facets and not steep it wouldn't be a problem.

Yes. The A/C light started blinking and the coolant temp quickly climbed to 217°and I felt it would keep going, then overheat. That's when I turned the A/C off, rolled down the windows, and dealt with the heat. The temp stabilized at 212°.

I think it was in the mid to high 120's that year in Death Valley.

I've read that story and can't believe the insurance company totaled the truck; I would have wanted it repaired and returned to me. I ran the license plate through Carfax and the truck now has a salvage title, but from what I can tell it was repaired and someone is actually driving it now...

I heard that on the radio about 30 minutes ago, guess that Prince Charles character takes over her spot.

Same, function first. My bathroom had a skylight and I just knew the day would arrive it would leak, I said first time it leaks it's gone. Definitely relate to steep roof..mine in the back is shallow and ice dams were an issue until I went metal

    A shame
