Went to Findlay this morning to order the parts, well they said they actually had them all......so I asked "all 4 shocks and the 4 leaf packs, I didn't think you would stock the 4 leaf springs" answered "after we have performed a few of these kinds of requests we keep a couple sets of the parts on hand".
So I left my truck and told them I'd come in just before closing to pick it up, they call at 3pm saying it was done. I picked it up just before closing, glanced at the shocks to make sure they were all bilsteins, saw that the leafs were new, but didn't look too closely....so of course they installed NEW 3 LEAFS not the 4
Now I have to call them in the morning to order the 4 leafs even though I specifically mentioned for them to check for the right parts.

I do have to say they were much more courteous that dealing with Fletcher Jones.
I took the TSB forms in, said I'd like it done and no questions asked they took it to the tech to verify what parts were needed for my model (no TRD) and got to work.

UPDATE: Took it back this morning and they replaced it with the 4 packs. The parts person admitted he overlooked the new part # and they had them both in stock. They gave me a free rental for the day due to inconvenience. The service writer was extremely helpful and they have fantastic service.

I'll be writing a letter of appreciation to the GM and Corporate to note the difference in service I received at Findlay and my ongoing complaint at Fletcher Jones.

Koons Toyota in Annapolis is supposed to do mine on the 15th. The e-mailed me that the parts are in. I replied asking them to confirm the part numbers on the new springs (I supplied the numbers and described them as 4 pack leaf springs) . they replied that those were the parts that were on hand...we shall see...

This is silly. Dealers just don't perform TSB's just by showing them the documentation. They will only do a TSB if they acknowledge that your truck is having problems related to the TSB.

why...they did that with me.......they don't jsut have 300lbs of sand or something handy to see the truck bottoms out. Toyota acknowledged the problem and ur complaining about it......so they have no reason not to take ur word for it

I know Toyota acknowledged that there is a problem. But they did not issue a recall where it would be mandatory for the dealer to fix the problem. Are you saying I can lie to the dealer and say my truck is bottoming out with 800+ lbs of load, and they will do the TSB service? Because if I can do that I would get this TSB done like the rest of u. However I have an '09 model and I don't think there's a TSB out for the model year yet.

haha...very well. What's the sufficient amount of load in lbs, where I can justify a rear spring fix - and where the dealer is unable to produce that amount of load if they want to reproduce the problem?

Pull up the TSB and read it. It says the TSB is a customer generated complaint. Due to the customer complaining of a 'harsh ride'. It says nothing on the TSB about proving anything.

That's correct "Hoosiertaco"........ I should have stated in my first post that I took a trip to Denver Co. over the Thanksgiving hoilday and took my girlfriend and Aunt & Uncle with all our bags in the bed of the truck. This the first long trip with four people that I have taken in the truck..... I noticed a slight nose up postion of the truck with everyone and the bags ...going down the road and whenever I took a dip of any kind I felt the truck bottom out.

So when I got home I took the truck with a copy of the TSB to the dealer and told them about how it rode and gave them the TSB also. They had there tech put it on the rack and take a look see and came back and told me that they ordered the parts to fix it and would be happy to take care of it.

So three days later the truck has been repaired and the Dealer service guy was happy with it and so am I .:D

Stewart Toyota in Corsicana Texas preformed my TSB, I drove up there on 05 Dec and handed the service manager the TSB, He asked where I got it and I said internet.
He asked if I was having a harsh ride I said yes, he ordered the parts they showed up on 06 Dec I then took it in on 12 Dec and four hrs later it was done.

This was not their first rodeo with this TSB.
They did a great job and all is well.

I just printed the TSB (along with the low speed vibration one) and brought them both in when I did the 5k maint. They simply asked if I was experiencing these issues. I told them yes, this is what prompted me to go search the Internet. I didn't know it was not a quirk and an actual problem until I found the two TSBs. They ordered the parts and I have an appt. this week for their install.

I am a Service Advisor at a Toyota dealer, and I have had this TSB done to my 07. I have also performed this TSB for others and the main thing our techs look for is evidence that the rubber stoppers have been touching the frame, which is proof that the truck has been bottoming out.

Can you explain who is the moron at Toyota that decided to use the same three-leaf spring suspension setup for five model years (2005 to 2009) even when they know there is a problem with it?

Just so no one gets led astray, their does not need to be any 'evidence' of anything. The only thing that is needed is a customer complaint about a 'harsh ride'. The dealership has no bearing on making any decisin about doing this TSB. If a dealer refuses to do it, then all you do is call Toyota and tell them of a 'harsh ride' and they will see to it that it is done at the dealership of your preference. I would prefer not to go to the dealer that would give me a hard time.
Remember folks, this is a customer complaint generated TSB. Not a dealer decision to be done TSB. Just make sure the vehicle is within the specs of the TSB, proper year, model, etc.

Most people buy a 4-door truck expecting the ride to be more like a car. They are not cattering to those few of us that plan on hauling some weight. We are a minority, and they probably see it as a drop in the bucket to change the springs for the few that want it done.
As a manufacturer, I would rather have to make a few owners happy by beefin it up, rather than have a bunch of complaints about a stiff riding logwagon.

I would like to see the numbers crunched into a chart to see the % of people that have had this done. I know for a fact that 2 area dealerships have been selling Tacomas since before '05 and one of them has done two of these TSB (3 including mine) and the other has not done any!

Both have sold Taco's for years yet have only done 3 total spring TSB's, this makes us a very small % of the population.
