Is it just me or did the few choices for an upgraded clutch kit for the 3.5l disappear now leaving
almost nothing but a stock replacement?

@Formidable used ClutchMasters or something like that for an upgrade.

Well, I guess that brings it to three.

    Centerforce
    Clutchmasters
    Phoenix Friction

No Exedy, SPEC, ACT, South Bend, RAM, or anything else I've seen.
Also noticed URD apparently lists nothing anymore.

Some of the Diesel Hilux Trucks w/ the RC transmission run a 9300n (Taco is 8350n) pressure plate. BUT... It's a different style of pressure plate, called low peak effort (read description in pic). It may require a different step to be cut into the flywheel.... Much research needs to be done to see if it can be run in the Taco. It could be nice to have more squeeze and same or less effort.

If we could pair it with your modded RC60F
    Hilux trans I'd be down.

    Good luck!

I know that @Formidable was happy with the Clutchmasters one. It was set up for him and installed in like a week? I can't remember if I drove his Taco after it was installed, but I believe he said that it had a lot more feel. It was upgraded to handle the torque of the S/C.

CenterForce returned my email and said they are working on this clutch but won't available till the end of the year.

    @tonered
The DevilPenguin already is on 35's and 4.88's but I do still tow and haul some stuff around.
Although I definitely have been kicking around the idea of supercharging it now that someone has made
a tune for the Maggy supercharger. KInda started looking into the supporting mods for that when I
stumbled into this absence of options. Thanx for the input Tony and I'll keep this updated if I hear from any other companies.

With the reported troubles that URD was having, I'm glad there are a couple alternatives. If I was swapping in a clutch, it would be damn hard to go back to OEM with the amazing lack of feel. The consistency of the ADM is the only redeeming quality there.

Nice! Feeling slow when towing? I've been curious how mine would handle a 4,500lb to 5k travel trailer. I'm not expecting it to feel like it ain't there, but the ability to crawl passes at a reasonable pace would be a necessity.

There's a lot of love for the YotaWerx S/C Tune. I drove a couple Tacos with it during development, but not the final version. Felt friggin' awesome. The party trick torque off idle was such a nice feeling.

Yall need to stop... I hated the 3rd generation due to the lack of power down low with the 3.5l, but now that there's boosted options and such its getting hard to not want a newer truck... still love my 09 dcsb OR, but it's hard not to admire the look and modern updates of the 3rd gens... and that double overdrive must be sweet.

Sorry! But, FI is damn party trick. I've driven an AT and an MT with Magnuson S/Cs. The torque available at idle is just perfect. It will make you laugh.

That said, even the N/A Tacos feel stellar with a tune. Not nearly as good as the S/C, but it is often enough to keep folks, like me, very happy. You are 100% correct that the 3.5l is down on torque, but that is only because Toyota handcuffed it unfairly.

Also, some folks are reported better MPGs with an S/C. Go figure . . .

Wow... better mpg with a S/C!!! Who would have thought??!! Lol. Yeah gonna keep my paid for 09 for now but if the funds get freed up may do the S/C for the 4.0 and see what I get. Trans is currently down so trying to decide if I wanna just wanna do the quill sleeve kit and new clutch/glywheel kit or go ahead and throw a RC62F in there and be done with the craptastic RA60F...

Slightly off topic, but speaking of tunes anyone have a recommendation for a tune for the 1grfe that is worth it?

You get better mpgs a lot of the time but it doesn't save any money because you need to run more expensive premium gas that offsets any savings.

Tough decisions. If it mates up, the RC62F is a nice gearbox.

From the 4Runner folks that I have tuned, it is. More throttle response, more MPGs if running 91+, and more kick up top.

We're still working on 2nd Gen tunes as summer has been busy.

I know @BillDaCat8, among others, is/has swapped the RC62F in his 2nd gen... trying to get feedback to see if there's been any issues other than a few initial external part changes. Hhhmmm currently just run 87, but if it comes down any may start using pure gas (89 no ethanol) at the station near me.

    Nice!

Stick with 87 unless you get a tune. Makes zero difference when Stock. Hell, 92 had me losing MPGs when I tested it before getting a tune.

True... I always hated that toyota didn't get more into the power game against Nissan. Toyota Def has better product overall, but Nissan always offered better performance it seems. I know toyota is capable of that... the thought that my 09 tacoma with 6 speed manual has NEVER seen above 18 or 19 mpg baffles me as that number was in 6th doing 70 at most on flat open highway with a tailwind. I know you've gotta be able to get better than that outta these. I've got a coworker with an early 3rd gen tundra( 06-08) with the 1grfe and automatic and he gets 18-20 all day...
