Anyone able to help me identify the source of this pink crustiness?

Looks like the thermostat housing to me, When was the last time the water pump and timing belt we're changed. It might be time to tackle that job again. If it was done fairly recently then I'd drain the radiator and replace the rubber gasket for the thermostat.

Definitely replace thermostat + gasket (oem or aisin brand).

Slight chance it's the "water outlet" aka thermostat housing where it meets the lower hose. I would recommend replacing upper/lower hose while you are in there. Unless they have recently been replaced.

Below is how a few water outlets I've done looked. They get corrosion built up and the hose can't make a seal. Sand until smooth if it looks like this.

OK, thank you for the insight. The timing belt was replaced +/- 20k miles ago but I'll have to look through my receipts to confirm the water pump was also replaced at the same time (the sharpie on the engine plastic in photo 1 doesn't reflect the most recent TB job). I didn't do that work, but I did buy the OEM kit for it, so I might be able to find that paperwork.

Hoping it's just a gasket that needs replacing, but while I'm in there, might as well replace the hose and thermostat as well since others have mentioned those might be worn.

Who did the timing belt without changing the water pump and thermostat? Those pretty much go hand in hand.

Can confirm, water pump was indeed replaced at same time as timing belt.
