Small update on my tune update from Pro to XT. Took our yearly road trip from Phoenix to Durango so got to compare to last year’s results. Truck is stock other than tune, bed was loaded with two sets of clubs, flat of water, two suitcases and some other random stuff. Back seat had large cooler and a bunch of food, boxes of soda, beer and other adult beverages in bottles.

Going up the I17 is all uphill and mpg really takes a beating. I have seen around 14-15mpg going up in the past. This time I got 17mpg and truck pulled the hills much better.

the run from Flagstaff to Durango usually saw 20-21mpg but this time we got 23mpg. Funniest segment was after filling up in flagstaff on the way to Tubacity we got 27mpg on the dash! A lot of down hill on that segment.

still seems like at altitudes over 6k it wants more air or something. May just be spoiled by driving at 1200-1400 feet all the time.

    Thanks for the review.
    Glad your enjoying the Pro+XT.
Sounds like the highway drive ability has improved nicely for you and solid improvements on your mpg's.

Thomas came over to the house on Labor Day to get KDMAX‘s.

His 2019 DCSB OF was carrying a little weight with a 3/2” lift, 33” tires and winch bumper loaded. He complained of the sluggishness and crazy shifting and even more so since lift and tires upgrade.

KDMAX Pro + XT Normal throttle took care of that and he left happy.

if your in the Southeast Gulf Coast region (AL, MS, and NOLA area) contact J&J Complete Tuning at 228-282-0138 for all your Tacoma, 4Runners and now select Tundra tunes.

    Hi guys!
First post in this amazing forum after about a year as passive reader.
Got my 22 TRD Sport 2WD just over a month ago and I was sure people are just exaggerating about the gear hunting and throttle respond. I was wrong.

    To my questions:
    1. Does the Pro+XT works at adaptive cruise control mode? Think I was reading something that it has some effect but not sure. I'm using it 99% of the time on highways and long suburbs stretch and would love to get rid of those rediciolus gear hunting on every slight uphill even when unloaded.

    2. If it does not work or affect while at adaptive mode, does it make any change on regular cruise control mode maps?

    3. If I'm going 60-65 on flat highway, the way to have more torque is by not locking the torque converter / keep it on 5th?

    4. I'm pretty pleased with my current fuel economy, granny style acceleration and gentle right foot overall. Will my fuel economy suffer? I guess the tune increases RPM shift points to use more available torque, but to my understanding it can potentially harm the fuel economy on the other side.

    5. What are the main difference between "lite" and "normal" settings? Are they actually the same but the lite gives more modulation for the gas pedal? (I'm aware I can try both settings, just curious).

    6. I like the "glide" feeling when I let go the accelerator, the truck continues to roll nicely. I feel the transmission shifts down (and have some engine braking as result) only below 35-40 mph. How's the tune handle's that?

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to TW.

    1. We do not have access to the adaptive cruise control maps. The adaptive cruise will work as it does on the stock tune.
We have been getting reviews with the 2022's adaptive is working great with the tune.

    2. Constant cruise control (Regular CC) we do have changes that improve highway driving with cruise control on.

    3. If your on flat highway cruising 60-65 you can be in 6th getting better mpg's. With a light step on the throttle you will downshift to 5th with the torque your looking for.

    4. If your driving as light on the pedal as you are saying i would believe you will see a increase in mpg's. (No Guarantees) But most all report an increase when driving normal.

    5. Lite throttle is more like stock but is more linear then stock. Normal throttle is great for stock to lighted modded trucks. The throttle will respond quickly and smoothly.
Sport is recommended for heavier trucks with heavy mods.

    6. The Pro+XT will give you the "glide" feeling your looking for.

    1. And 2. Yes the ACC and normal cruise are affected by the KDMAX Pro + XT tune. I tested on a long camping trip giving both about 125-150 mile try and they performed exactly the same. Prior tunes did not affect both. That being said CC is one area the tune can improve once VF Tuner provides tools to do so. The crazy drop of two gears and rpm’s of 3500-4000 are gone. But it still will drop down appropriately when under loads. But I find it let off and returns to an upper gear as soon as load is lifted.

    3. Not sure exactly what you’re asking but tuned it will hold 5th nicely and actually get into 6th if in good flat straightaways. No need to gear lock it if that what you mean.

    4. tuned I and all of my customers have had an uptick of 1-2 MPG on average after tune with conservative to moderate driving styles.

    5. Lite is similar to stock feel with a slightly better tip in. Take more foot pressure to get rolling and maintain then normal in my experience. Normal is where it is at for me and most customers. Lite pressure to get moving and very lite to maintain. I get my best MPG with normal. Sport is exactly that, sporty take offs and little to no pressure to keep rolling. Con would be parking lot touchiness and stop and go traffic.

I drive a stock 2022 trd offroad 4x4 and im planning on getting my truck tuned. My question is im planning on getting a suspension lift so i can put bigger tires and maybe regearing in the future, should i hold off on the tune after the lift or go ahead with the tune?

If you have some cash burning a hole in your pocket, just do it now! You’ll be ready to roll with some big-o-tires. You won’t regret it. Getting the tune won’t give you the “show” but it’ll give you the “GO”… for sho.

No reason to hold off getting tuned first. If you add gears later we can adjust your tune for the proper gear size no charge.
Some owners have opted not to re gear after the tune with adding lift and tires they were happy with the gains the Pro+XT offers.

The tunes have saved so many folks I've worked with from thinking they have needed to regear but found exactly as you said!!

Yes we have Pro+XT . Added low end torque where it needs it the most. More torque thru out the rpm range. Contact your KDMAX tuner for details and scheduling.
