Use OBD Scanner to Reactivate Remote Start

Hey Folks,

Does anyone know if an OBD Tool, like the XTOOL D8, could be used to reactivate the remote start on 3rd Gens? I REALLY don’t want to pay for connected services and am looking at the XTOOL anyway.

Don't think its needed. You'll still be able to start it with the FOB once the trial runs out. You only need to pay if you want to be able to start it from your cell.

 

You are correct. You can remote start the truck using the keyfob, free of charge...for life.

 

Mine won’t do it after I cancelled the subscription.

 

Call Toyota and they should be able to get it working again without a subscription.

 

How far away can you be for it to work? If you have to be pretty close like to unlock your doors it's almost worthless.

 

I don't know the exact distance, but probably...50-100ft?

Can you share what the steps were for others? Was it something on their end?

 

I called and explained that I was under the impression that the fob would work after the end of the subscription. They told me it will only work if you have at least one subscription service at the time the trial ends. They gave me a free year to restart it. We’ll see in a year if it still works!

 

Oh dang! Not the answer I wanted or was expecting... I bought mine used at 2 years old. It already had an aftermarket autostart installed but the fob always worked even before I enabled/paid for the app for the viper autostart. Unfortunate if the fob auto start is actually pay to play

 

The range isn't that great. I ended up installing the cell module on mine because of it. Nice to be able to start the truck without actually being able to see it.

 

That's weird. My 2021 still works after my year expired. I have to use the fob and the range is absolutely shitty but it still works. Are you saying that once Toyota reactivated the connected services, your fob remote start works again??

 

Yup! It works… for now at least.

 

Mine works with an expired subscription. Key point I guess is that I had had used the free trial service and then just didn’t continue it. I am able to start from inside my house so that’s lucky I guess.

 

is this doable on any 3rd gen?
what features does it need to have to get it enable?.

i have a 2019 sport with navigation and key-less entry. i bought it used so i don't know if they ever had that service

 

2020+ only. You have other options though, where you won't need to deal with Toyota and their subscription nonsense.

 

I don’t think fob start is exclusively 2020+
