I wonder how much 1st gen baby rage would have been on here from neglected timing belts?

Not much. Replacing a belt that can be done by yourself in a couple hours every 100k. Not to mention it’s a non interference design. But keep reaching.

Again, there more similarities between the 2nd and 3rd gen. Keep us simpletons out of it lol

Well considering the 5vz is one of the most well known and reliable motors ever built on a world wide scale, I’ll take it.

What reach? you think people don't let timing belts wear out then rage about it? I understand its not an interference engine, but being left stranded is never fun. Some people can't even do something as simple as paying someone else to change there oil, let alone change a timing belt, or even know what a timing belt is.

Sounds like what you’re saying is, it’s more on the owner and “their” ability to maintain than the trucks reliability/design.

    Good we agree

You should read my post and work out what exactly "neglect" means before mouthing off.

They do accentuate the fender though...

I did have a little laugh about your comment...because I visualized them instantaneously! lol

EDIT: I bought some Bushwacker Fender Flares but they look cooler.

You are correct but the motor doesn't have to be pulled on the 2nd gen. Its like a 1/4 the cost.

I do like my 3rd Gen over my 1st. Kinda skipped over owning 2nd, since the 1st kept on running. 2nd Gens look kinda doofy to me. The bug eye headlights, flares, and apparently the dash is made from recycled soda bottles… :p

    You are too funny!

Each generation provides an improvement over the next.

I'm glad my journey with trucks started with the 3rd Gen Tacoma.

    EDIT: added a song...

    LOL! That song!

The 2012-15s weren’t too terrible, squared off the lights and grill a bit. Never did like the interior, seemed cheap and cheesy to me.

I owned a 1st Gen, drove it for over 16 years. Someone decided to total it while it was parked. I now own a 3rd gen. I'm happy with it. We'll see in 16 years what I think of the reliability. It is much nicer to drive, but it should be, it's 18 years newer than my old truck. That being said, Toyota earned my trust with the first truck, so I'm willing to give it another shot.
