I don’t have any plans for a RTT or anything heavy on the back, so I could justify getting the SE. even if I put a couple of bikes on top it still is nowhere near the 400lb rating. For what I wanted, the SE is more than enough. Also just want to point out that the water seal on it is amazing. I’ve been through car washes, HEAVY rain multiple times and have not seen any water get past any of the seals.

You must be getting lucky, I’ve seen water intrusion with a Diamondback, and a smartcap.

Another thing is I’m 6’ so it’s already tight between my legs and wheel. I’m also used to my wife’s 5th gen 4Runner with a lot more interior room. Had steps and took them off a month ago when i bought the truck in anticipation of sliders. Seats already had 51k miles of butt rubbing, don’t want to accelerate that wear if i can help it.

    Oh look, another mod....

It just arrived. It wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be, or maybe I have super human strength? That could be, because, you know....I'm really awesome.

Anyway, the thing unrolled with eased and didn't have to lay in the sun to go flat. It did it right away. I tossed it in the bed and here's the end result:

Oh the bed mat no problem. It was heavy but I just levered it against the tailgate. It looks great.

But the Retrax… I had a hard time dragging the box. No way I’m going to be able to install that by myself.
I’m going to run in the engine with a trip to Yakima about 5 hrs. And a friend is gonna help with the Retrax and Tyger side steps. Having some transmission issues … revving, hesitating and lurching so I think a nice long high speed trip will be good.

I was tired of the weak little storage box. Time for an upgrade.

    1st time using Fusion 360.
    1st time using sendcutsend.
    1st time bending sheet metal.
    Really suck at welding.

Buddy is going to finish weld it.
Then paint. Then drill holes. Then mount.

That came out really good! Are you planning on cutting the “face” off of the OEM box and reusing the door?

I think to start a just going to leave it open. If I planned right it should work with the hooke lockable door. So that might he the future.

Never taken the time to use Fusion. I use Inventor at work. Any good compared to other programs you've used?

Nice project. Interested to see how it turns out.

P.S. - Welding galvanized/galvanneal sucks no matter who does it. No judgement here. That's thin material. It off-gases. Booo!

I read in one of the forums someone posted that they installed some smoky tinted tail lights that I really liked. Can’t find the post now any ideas?

When finally getting around to washing last week's mud off, I discovered a few new nasty dings.

Apparently the branch that took out my mirror had more ricochets and turns than Oswald's bullet. In addition to the broken glass there was a big fat dent on the fender and another on the roof.

    PXL_20220910_170355193.jpg

So I decided to do something that I haven't done in a while, I got out my collection of buffing compounds and waxes and got to work.

Overcast and misty today, so can't cut the grass. :bananadance: Installed the OEM tailgate inserts and the tailgate lock (both bought during the Labor Day sale on line at Parts.Toyota.com. The tailgate lock instructions kept saying to follow the wiring harness under the truck. Finally figured out that my SR5 doesn't have that wiring harness so put it up near the top of the frame and away from the muffler and tailpipe. Very happy with the way it all went in. Thinking about blacking out the chrome badging. We'll see.

If you install the bulk head seal correctly and pull the cover down tight when you’re adjusting the locking bars then I honestly don’t know how water would get in tbh…

Do it! And swap in color matched bumper caps while you’re at it
