Steering wheel noise on new truck

Hi all,

I recently just purchased a 2022 Tacoma SR5 trail and have been absolutely loving it. Wish I would’ve pulled the trigger sooner before all of the dealer markups. Anyways, I never really drove it in complete silence and when I did I realized that the steering wheel is making some kind of whooshing noise when turning right and twice to the left. To me it seems pretty normal but I’m unsure since this will be my first Tacoma. Do your trucks make the same noise? Im at less than 200 miles. Thanks!

Sounds like a sticker or something on the backside of your steering wheel rubbing while turning. IMHO…

 

that sounds like power steering

 

My 2020 sr5 when very new made a constant squeaking noise in the cab that was somewhere around the steering wheel. Drove me crazy for a few weeks till i accidentally pin pointed it around the articulating section of the steering post. Sprayed it with heavy duty silicon, and it went away never to return.

 

Does your truck make the same noise?

The clock spring ribbon cable can sometimes make a noise, esp when turning to full lock.

 

Look at the plastic cowlings (the two clamshell halves around the steering wheel column) and see if they are rubbing against the column.

 

it's hard to tell from the video. can barely hear it. but my power steering does make a tiny bit of noise

 

Can’t hear anything outside of the road noise in the video

 

It sounds kind of like pumping air in to a bike tire. Very lightly

 

On mine the lower column cover, back center, won't stay clipped. It tilts the whole cover enough it rubs on the back of the steering wheel.

 

I have the same issue

 

I had a similar issue when i removed the column covers for a mod and reinstalled then. Took top and bottom back apart and checked the clips and reinstalled, making sure that the lower cover I pressed in on the sides and pushed back all the way then released to secure it.

 

Hmm, never had mine off. Does the steering wheel or airbag need removed first?

I suspect one of the clips is broken and the whole lower cover needs replaced.

 

No the covers just separate as shown nothing else is affected. I don’t do airbags lol.

 

Dealer is replacing my lower cover under warranty.

Any idea whats going on with the sound? been bugging me alot latety
