John did state $400 for the tune. FYI, OTT doesn't charge for their updates, which is cool.

Anyone know if a vehicle purchaser can title and register a vehicle with a bill of sale, lien release and payoff letter? I would probably be at the DMV with the purchaser.

So I am used to getting forced induction vehicles tuned and the ECU flashed. The OTT website only shows a MT and not an AT vehicle dyno graph. Gaines with NA engines are usually small and in this case on the MT is like teens for torque and HP. The constant shifting is more of a hassle and worth for me to get "tuned" out.

Do not have the time to through the locked OTT tune versus other tunes thread. What makes the OTT better (or worst than others) I like the option of having the ECT button being an option to switch throttle response etc.

Shifting is the MAIN driving force for me (and most 3rd gens I would speculate...torque and hp aren't really on the top of the list, but apparently OTT and KDMax improve low and mid range torque, be it subjective or dyno'd/objectively based.

I also like the deleting 5th as overdrive while in ect/for towing.

I'm not racing or trying to take people off the line. (sans a few idiots driving 25mph below interstate speeds in the left lane of a 2 lane interstate) most of my driving is interstate commuting with rolling hills, so using and holding 5th outside of ECT and S mode is something I'm willing to pay for...plus OTT update/upgrades are free (have to confirm with our local tuner), so that also works with my buy once, cry once mindset/purchasing habits.

The biggest thing KDMax tune did for me was get rid of the sub-3500 rpm suppressed throttle, acceleration is now linear all the way thru the RPM range. Obviously the shifting wasn't an issue for me with a manual, but I understand it's good for that as well on the ATs.

OK In contact with John and will prob shell out the rupees to get flashed to see if that increases the pleasure driving the taco or keeps the frustration current. Had been at the Toyota Shop multiple times with complaints on how the tranny shifts with my latest experience here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...our-transmission.640532/page-13#post-27493710
If the tune would eliminate some of that then its worth trying.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
What Mark said. I went with KDMax as it seemed to be getting better review at the time. As Mark said, the acceleration really smoothed out and got the under-powered feel in the low range of the gears.

What is your timeline for getting up with John? Not that I'm even in the ever expanding NOVA area...but figured I'd ask.

In order for me to work with a dyno (automatic) I had to get a tune, but that was needed since I have a supercharger. I went with yotawerx because they have a lock out tune that let's me lock my gears by putting it into S-D. It also has more daily drive fun since it doesn't gear search or lags. The responsiveness is great and so far (on 4 tanks of gas) I've averaged better gas mileage (by 2 more mpg) than before. Just a thought since folks are dealing with gear shifting.

Believe the OTT has a feature also that can be locked by using the ECT switch but they also have another option that uses the ECT switch for different throttle responses. The feature of using the "manual" option to lock out the overdrive is neat. Drove to Newark NJ last week to grab a Kwik-Lift and never had seen 23+ mpg on the truck. Always cruise at 71MPH when on the interstate and have clue how it managed that MPG going north:

Will be interesting if the MPG changes with the OTT

Return was the usual sub 20mpg:

I can never get more than 19 mpg on the highway but I think that's because I'm always doing 80 mph and driving thru the mountains on I-81. One time I got 22 mpg for half a tank driving near the coast where it was flat and going about 60, but as soon as I hit the hills it came crashing down. Oh, and I have mud terrain tires.

MPG comments/threads always remind me of when I got my first 3rd Gen back in 2016. I was super stoked to be getting 23-25 MPG per tank! Then I realized that my truck was set to record imperial MPG, not US MPG. Major bummer. I was actually closer to 19-21 US MPG (stock), on the flat roads in NC no less.

Anyway, always makes me wonder if my imperial/US scenario happened to anyone else when posting fantastic MPG numbers on this forum.

As for me, I’m throwing MPG out the window these days. I pick up my new truck next week, and will probably throw on some Geolandar M/Ts shortly after I put the new suspension on.

I was working some rear lot, aerial plant. Was up a pole on gaffs doing some maintenance work. Got a call over the Nextel, that a plane had hit the first tower. Curiosity hit me. So I finished up, climbed down, packed my stuff, proceeded down the street to another location that was easier to access. Hooked up my test set (test TV) to the plant and tuned in.. after seeing the second tower hit, A mass email went out. Stated to get all plant up NOW, and not to affect pictures anymore till further notice.

After seeing seeing all that, I called my Unit (National Guard) for instructions.. Their words were, have all shit ready to go and stand by.... I was in an Aviation unit at the time and some pilots were already there.

I was a SSgt on my first tour in Hawaii, getting ready to go to work. A lot changed in the Corps (and the Country) after that day.
