Hello from Canada

So I've order a TRD OR DCSB. (Still a 5month wait)

After looking on this forum I've been thinking I might want the access cab 6ft box for bed camping, putting snowboards straight etc. I want the shorter wheel base of the OR.

I definitely want the TRD OR and unfortunately in Canada we can't get the DCLB.

So for all of you guys out there what did you choose and why? Do you find the back seat room more beneficial or the 6ft box?

My lifestyle: Living in Whistler, Canada. Have a GF and a medium/large dog (golden). We have SUPs, bikes camping gear etc. Love going offroading around the trails up here.

Let me know your thoughts?

Edit: The access cab also comes in a manual too (not sure if I want that or not) but is a few $$ cheaper

 

What makes you need the OR, that wouldn’t make it plausible to get a DCLB in an SR5?

 

If your GF and dog will fit in the back seat area of the access cab, then I say go for it.

I want the shorter wheel base, and the smaller truck for the trails up here. I also want the offroad features, locker etc

 

I briefly had an SR5 access cab, 6 foot bed. I like the look of the access cab, and the 6 foot bed appealed to me but the access cab is small. Not much room for anything other than coats, basic gear, tools.

 

Isn't everything car related a bad decision? haha

 

That's what I was thinking as well, unfortunately there were no access cabs or any trucks for that matter at the dealership for me to look at in person

 

Hello from 5 hours south of the Canadian border. It’s totally a personal decision. No rando on the internet can help you. That said… My 5’ bed is super small. I have to put the tailgate down for just about everything. However, I’ve hauled people more often than payload. I bought it primarily for towing.

 

Yeah definitely, I just thought I'd ask the public incase they have some things/experiences that I haven't have thought of. Have you ever tried sleeping in your 5 foot box?

 

More people regret access cab than they do 5 ft.

I hate how to get my dog in, I had to open my door, open the back door, close my door, let the dog in, and reverse.

My dog went everywhere with me. Access cab was a pain.

My sister has a 5ft box, its too small for snowmobiles, but she makes it work in BC for all her other adventures.

 

Hell no. I’ve never understood why anyone would want to sleep in their pickup bed. Mine is usually full of dirt, gas cans, tools, and occasionally dead rodents. Not to mention that I would wake up as a giant mosquito bite. I bring a ground tent if I plan to camp.

 

I have had both. A Gen 2 AC and Gen 3 DCSB…. now that I have had both, I would go back to the AC….I have missed the extra foot of bed. I don’t know what the Gen 4 will be like, but I would like to have an AC long bed SR5 4wd V6 without a turbo

 

Yeah that makes it sound like the 5ft should be the choice. My dog comes with me everywhere too

DCSB OR comes in manual here In the states for ‘22 MY, so may be worth looking in CAN also. 7545 is the Toyota code for that configuration. I sleep in my 5’ box all the time. Can easily make it happen with the doors closed if I’m alone and sleep slightly diagonal. I’m 5’9” and a side sleeper. Need the bed open if my gf comes along

 

To your original question, I use the extra space in the cab for storage and people transport way more often than I lament the shorter bed

The extra foot in the bed for me would only be an issue if I planned to sleep in the back, maybe a bed tent. Other than that I don't feel like I need the extra foot.

 

For years I've had standard 6 foot beds on my trucks. When I got the Tundra, its 5.5 or 5 foot (I can't remember) was a first for me. So far its been fine and I suspect the taco's bed will be too. Unless you carry a bunch of lumber around I think you'll be fine unless you absolutely want to sleep in it as well. If you take the dog everywhere, even the access cab is a little tight for that IMO but people do it.
