Hey all, been lurking this thread. What are the “wear parts” that may be tricky to get in 15 years if you plan to keep the truck that long? I’m not concerned about brackets etc but what about pulleys and bearings and custom hoses? I like the idea of the SC and the complexity is something I can live with, but unavailable parts give me concern

Magnuson was selling Toyota/TRD SC's when I was a young man in the 90's so the company themselves has staying power and as far as parts most of them seem pretty off the shelf as far as belts and pulleys go. Any Napa Auto Parts near a farming community will be familiar with getting/making/re-purposing hoses so thats covered.

A couple of us have had nose drives that become extremely loud, I'll let OpelGT speak to his experience but mine has been very pleasant and Magnusson has been very responsive with getting me a replacement.

Does anyone know the OEM and their part number for the tensioner? I'm trying to track one down to have on the shelf as a spare. Thanks!

Good idea - I would like that as well. And the part number for the belt?

Any 6pk2265 belt will do it. Mitsuboshi (note the O) and Bando are my go to when available.

Yes. They have been Toyota OEM on the Land Cruiser for decades. Mitsuboshi Japan produces some of the best belts on the planet... Bando Japan is excellent, too.

The more I read, the less I want to install a SC on my truck (as much as I would love to). Unless the install is by Magnusson, or a Magnusson-approved installer and tuner), I wouldn’t mess with that, considering the tuning issues.

The tune is perfectly fine for the average driver. You are going to have the same tune issues regardless of who installs it because it’s the same tune.

Getting a better tune from Yotawerx is an option but you’ll have to do that on your own. A magnuson approved installer will not install an aftermarket tune.

This might not be 100% accurate. One of the YotaWerx networked tuners is KRave Automotive in Alberta Canada and they do a lot of Magnuson supercharger installs and also flash the YotaWerx Stryker tune for customers.

To my knowledge, Magnuson only requires that a shop be ASE certified for honoring the warranty. Correct me if I'm wrong about that.

Maybe some do, but I doubt they are supposed to. Using the included calibration is one of the requirements listed in the warranty info. However maybe magnuson treats it as don’t ask don’t tell for lack of a better phrase lol.

If you can follow instructions and turn a wrench, you can install a SC without needing Magnuson to do it. Literally step by step instructions with colored pictures. If you can build an IKEA product, you can install the SC.

If I had to drive the Magnuson Tune I would sell the bitch and get a Tundra, Chevy or Dodge full size. The Magnuson Tune shifing logic is a POS for any AT.

any decent Torque Wrench - including HF is fine - your problem will be the 205 ft/lb of torque needed for the install of the crank pulley. Pay a shop to do it and then you can feel better about having it done - but unfortunately you won't know squat about how it was actually done - or what they did or did not do - but you paid for it. Kind of like going to a "lube" shop for an oil change - all good until it is not.

…sounds like a legitimate reason to buy a new tool to me. “Honey, I’m just going to have to spend $250 in order to save about $1950.”

This is the only thing that concerned me about taking on the job myself. I read so much about guys not being able to remove the crank bolt. Some of them even wedged a breaker bar against the frame and bumped the starter. That would certainly end in disaster for me. I bit the bullet and bought a high powered Makita cordless impact. With 1,180 lbs of breakaway torque it spun the bolt out like it was a 1/4-20.
I had a little more trouble getting to the torque spec while installing the bolt though. I finally figured out it was best to start with a lower number and dial it up in 10 lb increments. That seemed to work pretty good. Even with my gurly-man arms.

Magnuson support got back to me on the tensioner part number. For everyone's searchability for the future, here are the pulley / tensioner / belt part numbers.

Smooth Idler Pulley (1x used): Dayco 89007
Ribbed Idler Pulley (3x used): Dayco 89009
    Tensioner (1x used): Dayco 89281
Belt (1x used): Gates K060891 (cross to any other brand with automotive belt code 6PK2265)
