Did you revalve the coil overs to 10/10? I think sticking with the 700lb 16” springs will be just fine. Need to fix that valving though.

Looks like what’s on mine. To my understanding, they’re supposed to be 2” not 3”.

Yep! Did all of the suggested valving and figured since it’s a bit of a pain taking everything apart I’d swap the springs while I was in there.

Honestly I’m a little surprised at the outcome. I would have thought with the preload I have and dropping 100# worth of spring with the additional length it would have worked out okay.

Usually that’s the case. This time even jacking under the control arm getting everything setup it wouldn’t compress enough to get everything hooked up. I only lowered it onto the tires for a laugh to see how tall it was.

Gotcha. I had the same thing happen when I went to 500# 18” coils. I couldn’t get it to stuff one side enough with the jack to put my straps back on. Sat super tall but then rode around for a bit and had to add more preload haha

I’m going back and reading a few older posts on my project and had a question for you.

So you ran 600x18’s and had to use too much preload to get correct ride height? Maybe something on mine is binding if that’s the case. I’m running those springs with zero preload and it’s 3-4” over stock at least.

Huh. Weird. I wonder if it’s maybe the length or something. My 700# coils never did that. On the jack it would compress fine and I could hook everything up. But of course when I lowered onto the tires it would get stuck until I moved it. These 600’s don’t even move.

No I never had those on my truck. I was trying to decide between those or 16x650. The 16x650 worked great and rides fantastic. Very happy with my choice. Sounds like you don’t have weight up front?

I know on first gens, .25" spacer (taco lean) is like .5" actual change in ride height. So it would make sense that a 2" taller spring would give you 3-4" more lift...

Edit: also even though the spring is lighter, you are having to compress it more. 700lbs to compress one inch compared to 1200 pounds to compress it two inches

You have the wrong length springs on the shock

I think I said it in a previous post. I tried 18" 600#. Same, kept the truck way to high. I had some 16" 650# and they work perfect with no preload. @snowsk8air2 can vouch for em.
But if you have 700# and they all say that can work, then make it work.

Did you adjust the preload collar for the longer springs?

I’m fairly certain that many people stated the 18” were too long in a 600# spring.

I have plenty of weight. That’s why it’s weird how much lift I got. I don’t think the front could be much more heavy than mine is.

I’ll probably end up doing this since I have them and the 600’s clearly don’t work. Not even close.

Yeah true. Not sure what I doing when I was figuring the lift height. Probably too much brake clean fumes.

I’ll have to dig out my truck’s weight I did a while back.

I figured the 600’s would be close. After looking at @EatSleepTacos truck with 500’s he has at least an inch of preload. My truck is heavier than his I’m pretty sure. So I figured if I have a heavier truck 600’s should have worked with less preload. But they aren’t even close.

Yeah the 600’s definitely aren’t going to work. I thought with the amount of preload needed on a 500 I’d be okay with no preload on a 600 with a heavier truck. I guess not though.

Yeah preload is at zero. I based the choice off of how much preloaded was needed on an 18” 500. With my truck being heavier I figured 600 would do it.

Either something is bound up on mine or I doubt a 500 would even work. I’m pretty sure my coilover is max extended under full weight with the 600.

What front kit are you on? I’m on 18x600’s and it technically has the truck at zero suspension lift and my front end is pretty light. That’s mine on 37’s sitting next to a stock truck on 31.5’s.

I doubt you have no preload in an 18” spring. What’s the spring length when install on the C/O and the shock fully extended?

Your truck looks almost exactly like mine (heavier of course). My front kit is Dirt King 3.5.

Edit. There has to be something going on with my truck. If you have the same setup mine should be close to yours. Right now my shocks are pretty much fully extended on the ground.

Sorry. I was thinking you meant the preload adjuster. Not sure on the coil length. But Guessing the 16” original spring had maybe half of an of play with the collar all the way up and the new springs are 2” longer. So maybe 1.5” or so?
