Gotta be better than six months of summer.

 

They still have them, just been “modernized”

 

It’s only fair because you want to assume people are ignorant, fearful, superstitious, or xenophobic. Which seems to be a pretty ignorant assumption in itself, so I’m just following your lead. At the end of the day, people should be able to drive what they want to drive without being demonized by a minority of people who think they’re being righteous.

 

Used to live in AZ…it is but not by much. We’ll go from snow, rain, cool temps….straight to high 90s-100s. Not much in between. Then there is fire season. Looking like industrial China out there right now.

 

How about having a persecution complex? Is that an ignorant assumption?

 

I’m headed towards a city, myself. The goal is to not own a vehicle after this one.

 

Who can't drive what they want?

 

The little town we are in has everything we need within walking or bicycle distance. If I was retired, would only need a vehicle for trips.

Not a huge fan of commuting, have been looking for ways to end that nonsense. Since I am self employed, “could” end it tomorrow, but would take a huge financial hit.

 

Bullshit. You don't always get what you want. Even today, vehicles have to be registered to use the roads, and people have to be qualified to the use the vehicles. Society, through governmental supervision, has been deciding what that is since May 21st, 1901 when the first speed limit was introduced.

Fact - we are moving away from a fossil fuel infrastructure. I'm certain that in 30 years there will be a lot of people with a nice collection of ICE vehicles that sit around gathering dust because there's no more fuel to put in them.

Change management teaches that there are early adopters and resistors. You can be one or the other. But regardless of whatever it is the fuck anyone wants, the change is gonna come.

I want to retire, own and drive a diesel 70 series Maltec to cruise around in exploring back dirt roads, but the government and my mostly my bank account says no!

 

Think of the torque you'll have when that beast is all electric and can recharge itself in 2 hours with a rooftop solar panel.

We just need better batteries and solar panels. And at the pace we're going, we'll have it in 12 years or so.

Would be totally ok with an EV version of that. Just need to figure out off the grid charging.

I think that's what a lot of people don't think about when a deadline and penalties apply to something - it spurs the progress. There are legitimate concerns about the multiple costs concerning batteries, and it's clear that there needs to be the incentivization to get our asses in gear and figure things out. Maybe we aren't 100% there by the deadline - that's ok. We don't throw out good in the pursuit of perfection.

 

Toyota is putting solid state in upcoming hybrids, next model year. Solid State will be here quicker than 12 years.

And they came for all of the dogs whose people worked,

because they said it was cruel,

and because no one spoke up.

about the rights of animals, and they needed to be safe,

and no one spoke out about that,

Then, they came for the breeders,

because dogs must never be bred or sold,

they can only be rescued,

and breeding is inhumane,

and no one spoke out, and the border collies and Labrador Retrievers

and Jack Russell Terriers and Pit Bulls and Poodles and Jack Russell Terriers

vanished from the world,

dogs could only be rescued.

Then, they came for the bomb-sniffing dogs,

because dogs must not work, must not be

in train stations and airports,

they must live the natural lives of dogs,

and then, they came for the seeing-eye dogs, because it is cruel to work,

it is not the natural life of a dog,

Then, they came for the therapy dogs, because work is cruel,

were no seeing-eye dogs and search-and-rescue dogs and therapy dogs,

or ponies in the cities, or donkeys or horses on farms, or pulling wagons,

they came for your horse and your dog,

for your barn cat, your outdoor cat,

because no one spoke up,

and they had grown bold and powerful,

and told us how we and our animals must live,

because they now could.

And soon there were no animals left in our world,

for them to take away,

the horses had gone to slaughter,

in order to be saved,

they animals has vanished from our world,

the dogs and cats were all confined to their houses,

the working animals gone from the farms,

because no one could afford to keep them any longer,

or were afraid,

because there was no place safe enough for them,

nor enough money to follow the laws and regulations,

the vet bills and feed costs,

machines were cheaper and easier.

One day, the animals were gone,

out of the lives of ordinary people,

and children, who never were to see them again,

because no one spoke out.

The animals lived only on rescue farms and in zoos,

if they lived at all,

and on cable news channels,

and Internet videos,

the only places safe enough for them,

the only places that could afford them,

and keep them safe from us.

and they were all safe,

and protected from life,

and banished from the lives of people,

and exiled from our world.

and vanished from it.

I want to see that crap in action, I really do. The promise of it is pretty damn appealing, especially the safety aspects.

I remain hopefully optimistic.

I might need more solar panels if we're gonna charge 2 cars and run the AC at "walk-in freezer" levels.
