What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Parked the pavement princess on driveway upramp and street. Got under there and sprayed one can of Fluid Film inside the entire C-channel of the frame.
Pretty easy to do. Only dripped on myself a couple of times. Did wear glasses. No rust apparent on my 2014 DCSB, she sits in the garage quite a bit.

 

I've tried many brake pads, am currently running the green stuff EBC, very impressive

Well after a long search for a solid alignment tech I finally found one. Josh at Autotech alignment in surrey BC is a great resource for anyone who lives in the area and has a lifted vehicle. My initial numbers were so off they were embarrassing. They had chewed up a pair of tires before and with the new KO2s I wanted to make sure it was taken care of. The handling of the truck was immediately noticeably much better and the sloppiness was completely gone. I have a 6 in lift on mine (i bought it like this and didnt know better at the time) with SPC UCAs, but now it’s night and day difference! Here are my initial and final numbers for the front:

 

Just curious, for either of you guys was your shudder constant throughout any RPM and MPH range?

 

With that negative toe and negative camber I imagine it was eating the inside corner off those old tires very fast. Then that caster had to be close to rubbing your front bumper. Good thing you fixed it. KO2's are too pricey to let the road scrub off the corners. I would have liked to seen a before and after profile picture. Tires should at least now sit in the center of the fender well. Not to mention the strain is was putting on the entire suspension.

It sure was eating up my old tires.
The caster was actually towards the rear initially. Now it sits forward and handles much better. With the caster being positive it was front heavy and very sloppy. Now it’s much tighter and returns to the center much quicker.

 

FYI the toe is a fairly easy fix at home. I have done mine with a piece of string every time I change something like inner tie rods. I imagine there are youtube videos with instructions. Same for straightening a steering wheel adjusting outer tie rods. Caster and camber are def best left for pros with a machine. I bet that thing drives like a new truck now. I imagine you couldn't take a hand off the steering wheel before that alignment. Probably drove like a 90's Ford Ranger before you fixed it. No offense to Ranger owners. Before I retired my office truck was a late 90's Ranger with 11k miles. That thing drove rough. Felt like the suspension was falling off going over bumps. Drove similar to an 80's Jeep CJ with 35" tires. No offense to Jeep owners either. Nothing compares to driving a Tacoma.

 

You nailed it, taking hands off the steering wheel was a death wish now I can drive it with it barely touching my knees.
Now off to fixing the muffler. A few days ago noticed a rattling, the truck was running much louder and felt sluggish. Get under it today and the tailpipe has snapped from the muffler… long hunting trip in 10 days so better get after it.

 

Been thinking about getting those tails. Do you happen to have multi angle, on/off, day/night pix to share?

its beena few years, but yes the vibration was worse at lower speeds and then one day (the day i went buy new joints) it got noticable worse mid drive at highway speeds.

in my situation im pretty sure it was close to breaking loose and i got lucky...
