This is the wheel/tire setup I'm on right now, compared to the narrower wheel and 255/80 I'm thinking of switching to, with no spacer. So comparatively, there's just less poke, almost no difference in interior spacing with the suspension, and will fill the wheel well out a hair more. But what I'm primarily asking is whether a 2in. Bilstein lift with springs to handle the bumper weight will probably be sufficient to clear these tires?

Just for reference here is a shot of the Toyo 255's, my groover did 2 sipes per pass, I did 2 passes per tread block, afterwards I wished I had done three to get 6 sipes per block. This made the tires so so very much better in winter and wet conditions!! The downside is the centre treads started to dry rot by spring.. Not sure if this would happen with a new set. I drive a lot so this was only a 1 yr old set of tires.

So right off the bat lift has nothing to do with properly clearing tires. Your choice of positive offset wheels will make the fitting of the tires easier than the 0 offset I used. On my truck I have 0 offset wheels with the same size tires and I had pinch weld rubbing and slight rubbing of the cab mounts.

Poke with 0 offset 8.5" wide wheels for reference. Wildpeaks

Thanks, everything I've heard so far is pointing towards the pizza cutters being the right move. The Wildpeaks in particular have caught my eye, not least of all for the price in 255/80r17. It's crazy how affordable they are. How do you like the tires?

The lift will happen anyway because I know for a fact I need upgraded springs to handle the bumper, plus the truck has what I believe to be the stock suspension after 180k+ miles, so it's due for an upgrade. I think that having a proper lift and sitting about two inches higher and an added inch of ground clearance will help offset how much I'll miss the tire poke of the 285s.

I have only had them on for a few weeks but have taken them offroad a few times without any issues. Both onroad and offroad they have been great. Slightly louder than the duratracs (stock size) I had before. With +15mm I think you'll be sittin pretty flush in the fenders so it should look good. With the e load tires it will make your acceleration and mpg slightly worse, my best guess for mpg is 1-2 less.

The 285/70R17 Nitto Trail Grapplers on my truck are E-range, and supposedly 60+ lbs a piece. Between the lighter 255s and wheels, and smaller contact patch with the road, I'm hoping for an extra mile or two per gallon, but we'll see. The noise coming off the Trail Grapplers always makes me smile but I'm sure it'll be nice to be on a quieter tire.

Thanks for this. I run siped DuraTracs year round, had been thinking of the Toyo MT as a 33" option but recently decided to stick with what I have. Weight, gearing, cost (including a new set of chains) all factored in.

I get two years out of a set of tires, not sure if I'll get a third winter out of my current set bought Dec 2020. Probably 30K-40K kilometres out of a set and consider it a cost of doing business.

Anyone know if 'stealth center caps' can be had for FJ Cruiser (WE40596T) steel wheels?

After searching everywhere, I'm tempted get a 3D printer and design some.

Those look really promising. A true 33 with a more A/T looking tread. Might be better on the road than a MT tire.

This could be my solution to wanting a 33” tire for my daily driver if it has good reviews.

There is a thread for that tire. Not a lot of responses, but you could ask some of those who responded what they think now.

Thanks for sharing this. I may be going with these instead of the Toyo MTs when I switch to a skinny 33. They look much more highway friendly.

Does anyone know if they discontinued the Mastercraft Courser CXT in 255/85/16?

Now that I’ve had some time to look into it…That link that @Millertaco21 posted on the previous page of this thread says 4-8 week national backorder and I can’t find them listed in 255/85/16 on any of the major tire websites. Normally it will be listed and say “on backorder” or whatever.

It kinda seems like they don’t sell them anymore.
